Job Hunting - help!
Hi guys! (I apologise if this is long!)
I've not been around for a while (life is busy at the moment!) however for anyone who doesn't know I recently graduated from University with a degree in Theology, and I've since moved down to Devon with my fiance. He is studying here to become a teacher so unfortunately is on a small student loan, and therefore it's important that I'm managing some kind of income.
I was originally working as a street fundraiser for about a month, but it absolutely killed me, and luckily I managed to get a temporary job in a call center. However this contract is due to end in less than 3 weeks, and I'm stuck about getting a new job for the New Year. Work informed me in the interview process that they sometimes re-new temporary contracts into permanent ones, which obviously I've been very aware of so I've done my best to impress. I e-mailed the personnel manager about 3 weeks a go asking if this was a possibility and that I was interested, and she pulled me aside at work letting me know that my name had been forwarded should the company be able to afford me, and they usually let people know in the first week of December if they're interested in taking us on further. She said she understood my situation and would try her best to speed up the decision process just so I would know where I stand job-wise for the new year.
However it's now the first week of December and I've heard nothing. I know they're very busy, however I'm great at worrying and I'm getting increasingly anxious that they've now changed their mind or something. I know I have a right to chase it up however I'm really nervous about how to word it without sounding rude. I'm starting to look around at other jobs but I can't seem to find anything. Funnily enough not many employers around here care about a Theology degree and a whole lot of charity experience. I'm not even managing to pass online tests to get a basic till job in a supermarket so I'm getting really stuck now as to what I should do.
Basically, it's imperative I'm not out of work. Otherwise we cannot afford rent and things get messy. We also have a wedding to pay for, and with a date set we need to start saving.
Can anyone give me any tips? I've tried signing up for temp agencies but they send me info of jobs I'm not qualified for, despite the degree!
Ahhh :( Would very much appreciate any help. Feeling a bit stuck. Thanks in advance!
