How to become a voluntary patient. No one takes me seriously!

No one is taking me seriously. I stand on my balcony every night preying for the motivation to jump but I'm a coward. I held a knife to my throat the other night as my ex upset me after a night out. I have BpD. Overdosed earlier haven't sought medical help so must be ok. Just slept all day, being sick, haven't eaten.

Seen the doctor from crisis team earlier. He's putting me on amber and limiting my visits to three days a week, no meds have been offered. So this behaviour must be ok then. No one cares. My family have abandoned me, i am isolated in this city but refuse to move back home because of my family and i hate the place gives bad memories. I have one good friend but don't want to trigger his mental health problems. This has been happening for months now. Im still on the waiting lists for things which isn't making stuff easier. I just want to be a voluntary patient or something i feel so unsafe right now. Mental health professionals don't know what to do with me half of the time they say "well what do you want us to do". The crisis team are rubbish. I need help now but dont see the point picking up the phone they'll just take me to a&e, get crisis team then send me home and back to square one. Im damaged no one can help me. :( my gp is useless. I give up!!!!!!!!

Hi there. I'm not entirely sure I understand all your post - I'm not sure what Amber is for example. Does the doctor know that you overdosed today? I think it would be a very good idea to seek medical help for that.

I don't think there is an 'easy' way to become a volunatary patient - I think it's a discussion you'd need to have with your care team and it might well be worth asking.

It sounds like you're not really finding things helpful in terms of support right now (GP, crisis team, A&E), and it sounds like the care team are reluctant to admit you. Is there anything you think might be helpful, other than an admission, like seeing a different doctor?

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do.
We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us.
We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

The crisis team have people on boards red for severe, amber for severe but not that much and green for ready for discharge. And whats the point!!!!
Ive been offered the crisis house but had a really bad exspirence last time, theres actually no point for it and its a waste of charity money.
Ive seen to many doctors and they all say the same freakin thing. Like do i have to be a dead before anyone starts to listen. I think hospital would really help me right now. Having the crisis team come round and asking if I'm ok, hows my mood etc.. Then going and then telling them last week i was standing on a bridge and they were like "well what do you want us to do". Waste of NHS money.

I understand how desperate you feel right now. It does seem like you have a good level of support right now and they are clearly listening to you in order to give you that support. I know it feels really scary right now, but a lot of doctors and CMHTs don't like admitting patients with BPD to hospital because in the long run it doesn't help. I know it feels like hospital would be safe, but as I kept being told, patients who really want to hurt themselves still do so in hospital.

It is helpful to think of other things that will help you to feel better right now than hospital. Have you tried any coping/distraction skills?

I would ring 111 and explain you've taken an overdose and tell them what you OD'd on and how much and they will be able to advise you.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

You might not want to here this but jsut because you had one and expirence in the Criis hosue dont mean you might have another ... Both me and my partner are in different Criis hosues she has been in one over 2 weeks and is
Finding it okay (this one I was thrown out from an banned in the past) I have gone into one tonight they are not the nicest or homely places in the world but they can help in the short term ... Do you only have 1 Criis house or is there anymore ? X

Yes and they wont do it.
I feel like the care I'm under isn't right, so many are rude and patronising. Hospital really helped in the past. Ive tried all the distractions like hot baths and Netflix, if i went out for a walk then id probably just go to a bridge so what can you do
One time the crisis team came round and said i was attention seeking and being all negative, my friend was there at the time. After they went i held a knife to my friend and told them to get back in they wouldn't because of there own safety, didnt even offer to call an ambulance or anything. Just left for my friend to deal with it. I cut myself deep luckily just missed the vain. What treatment is that. They are called crisis team for a reason "crisis".
Naaa ill be ok thanks for the advise anyway.

In the crisis house is they have locks in your rooms so you could lock yourself in and pertensioinally do something anyway. Your given dbt papers but they dont actually care if you do the worksheets anyway and ive read through them, take it in but I'm not in the right frame of mind for "relaxing techniques" and whatever. I don't care. I slashed my wrists infront of one of the workers and she just gave me a laptop and phoned the crisis team who come out there everyday and dont take your feelings or threats seriously. You can go out whenever you want and go find a bridge and jump off it so yeah. Waste!!!

I too find services in my area rude & patronising, including my GP, so your not alone, is there a friend you really trust who knows you well who could stay with you? or a friend who could explain more rationally how desperately unsafe your feeling right now, I had to sit through hours worth of patronising questions & countless doctors at A&E the last time I was admitted, I just think they have a serious lack of beds available in hospital, my area doesn't have any crisis houses, so I've never had the option of staying in one, maybe others are right, one bad experience shouldn't stop you from going, to at least get some safety for yourself, maybe think of giving it a try, at least they are trying to help keep you safe despite that it may not feel that way, (hugs) hope you feel stronger and safer soon :) xx

What do you want them to do? That isn't me trying to be dismissive or patronizing, it is a genuine question. What could they do that would help? What is it about hospital that would make things better?

It'll get better. Until then, have a day."

Not really i don't have anyone. I do have a friend who could explain things more rationally to them. I know the lack of beds/cuts but that isnt our problem, there job is to keep people safe. Hospital gives me boundaries, a space to think and hopefully put me on the right road after. As ive said the crisis house is no safer than me being at home. Sorry for wasting everyones time.

So you have a friend who could explain things more rationally to them, maybe that may help to give them a better idea of just how bad things are right now, I know when I'm not feeling strong enough I become irrational & incoherent without realising, maybe their not getting the whole picture & would maybe reconsider your position with some input from your friend.

I already advised this on your other thread, but I agree you need to go to hospital if you've overdosed.

I messaged someone on netmums. They contacted crisis team, they phoned said he'd call an ambulance, me being a classic bpd push/pull i declined and he just read off his transcript and told me to watch tv, take a bath and then bye. So dont think its that serious.

Like I said before overdoses can do serious damage, especially in the long run. Just because they didn't force treatment on you doesn't mean you're not at risk. It depends on what you've taken. I think they were probably trying to make you take responsibility of yourself, that's all.

Let's say hospital isn't an option, which it doesn't sound like it is, what else would help?

I can see why they don't want you in hospital because it won't get rid of how you feel.
Are there any therapies or self help book you can work through?

I don't even have bpd and i find hospital sometimes makes me worse. I can't imagine how hard it would be if you are a regular self harmer.

You said that in the past hospital has helped. What was it about being inpatient which helped? If you can identify that and communicate it to your team they may be able to help you more fully.

auror - yeah in a nutshell, gonna make it worse sitting in a&e for 5 hours.

well sometimes taking responsibility for yourself isn't always right

I'm on a waiting list for psychotherapy and a cpn. But its been a year now for that. I'm under a consultant.

I've had cbt and all that.

But at least in hospital your safe and even if its for a few days atleast they could access me and see what actual treatment i need because now all i get is "well what do you want us to do". Hospital has helped so much in the past. Its safe, they give me boundaries, there's someone 24/7. Friends and family can only do so much.

Yes but you could die from an overdose. Sitting in a&e might be a pain in the arse but it's necessary. You might be fine to be discharged pretty quick but you do need to see a doctor.
