I am currently:
Smells from no-where, making me feel sick. Help? Ideas?

I keep smelling smells and they make me feel sick, and disgusting, and making me gip.

When I smell around I can never find the culprit for the smells, and my partner says she can't smell them. (normally she is the one with the sensitive nose)

Also my hands smell so gross, no matter how much I wash them, or anti bad them, the only smell that makes me feel comfortable and not sick is disinfectant or bleach (plain bleach, not scented bleach). It's stressing me out, because I feel nausea a lot at the moment anyway and it's wrecking with my appetite (and I keep losing weight which is really annoying me because I'm trying so hard to not lose weight)

Could this be stress? I thought that maybe it's MH related because my partner can't smell them, and even when I clean everything, I can still smell it and it's disgusting.

I just can't figure out a physical cause, and I can't figure out where they're coming from. And it's making me feel really dirty and gross even though I've been cleaning and washing loads more to try and get rid of it - but it's not going.

I don't even recognise the smells, I couldn't describe them as anything other than disgusting. It's not like bananas, or eggs or overdue dishes or bins. It matches nothing I've ever known before.

Anyway, could this be stress? Anyone know how to stop smelling maybe, or how to ease the nausea other than the obvious (drinking water, washing everything)

Eating is becoming really difficult most days and this is one of the reasons why. Some days I am fine to eat, other days it's a real task because I constantly feel sick anyway, and have non appetite, never mind dealing with smells that I can't figure out knocking me sick.

I've been a bit unwell lately in general, which is also why I'm considering if it is stress related or something, because a) I can't figure out any physical source of smell and b) I'm all over the place MH wise lately, so it's possible that maybe I'm just feeling sick and smells are making it worse. I dunno. I don't quite know how else to explain it.

Thanks.

If you can smell something that your partner can't then it might mean it's not actually there. Smell (olfactory) hallucinations do affect lots of people. It might be because you are stressed, or a MH thing, or a mix of both.

Have you talked to your GP about the nausea and difficulty eating?

It sounds very painful to be washing with bleach. It will severely irritate your skin and cause lots of harm. Do you see a CPN or someone you can get help from regarding this?

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

I agree with the above it could be a smell hallucination.
Or could be a side effect of physical illness if you have not been very well.

I have a stomach problem and when it gets bad/I don't take my stomach meds I get sick with any smell even nice ones and sometimes think i smell bad smells.

It's difficult to say weather it's physical health of mental health but it would be worth speaking to your gp about because if he/she can manage the nausea then you may be able to tell which it is down to.
Ie if the nausea and appetite goes back to normal and your still smelling it there is good evidence to believe that could be a hallucination. Or vice versa.

Def think about speaking to a doctor x

I have hyperosmia and occasional olfactory hallucinations. My advice is to talk to a professional about it, and if that doesn't help then perhaps you could ask another professional like your GP.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
