Any Comedians in the Crowd?

I should be honest, I've only been paid for one joke. It was two dollars, so I don't know if that counts as being professional or not. But I do write jokes and I do perform, mostly at open mics so far, but someday soon, I hope to land a real professional gig. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.

So there is anyone else here who likes stand-up? Any writers working up the courage to perform?

The best way to honor a comedian who is no longer with us is to laugh at their jokes until they leave you in tears.

I think I'm funny... Does that count?

I have dyslexia so please excuse my poor spelling and sometimes poor understanding.

These are some original one liners I wrote:

I worked at a light bulb factory, but I got tired of people stealing my ideas.

I worked at a phone company as an operator, but I called in sick and they knew I was lying, because I could still use a phone.

I tried having poached eggs but I fell out of the tree.

I did stand up comedy once. Like literally, one time. A girl on my course did it and she did a workshop with a few of us which ended with a bit of a stand up gig, but it was just for the other people on the course, so its not like I'll be on The Graham Norton Show or anything anytime soon. It was fun and something I would never ever have considered doing otherwise. I'm the worst at telling jokes, I always mix up the lines and tell the punch line at the start instead! So then there's no point in telling the joke at all. Though actually I dabbled in I singing for a while and I've recently been saying I was giving it up to take up comedy cos I'm hilarious. And that in itself is my first joke. So um, yeah...I have one joke I made up, this guy I didn't like asked me where do you get a certain bus and I replied, at the bus stop! Well I thought it was funny, but he was far from amused lol. My old therapist said I was good at doing deadpan kind of jokes, like the time I told her I was skipping my brother's wedding to go to a book signing, perfectly serious, and she was like um...she didn't know if I was serious or not. Obviously I wasn't but I'm so strange anyway she may have actually believed it! As I mentioned on a other thread, I did drama college for 2 years so I guess that required a bit of comedy. Though towards the end I completely lost all confidence and became convinced they were all just laughing at me, when looking back they weren't like that at all, only supportive, and they just found me funny. So yeah, sorry to go on but that's my experience with comedy. I'm not too mad about watching stand up comedy either cos I'm always afraid I'll be too slow and not get the jokes and then look stupid if I don't laugh. Like I said, I'm a strange one.
