I had to learn sign language in drama college (still don't know why) but I was pretty hopeless at it. Hope you get on better with it.

^ Perhaps to help you enhance and notice your none verbal communication skills as well as verbal.
I love sign language and am seeking to gain the official qualifications for the signs I already know due to having a good friend who is deaf. And it comes in handy far more often than one might imagine.

Good point! Like I said I wasn't much good but we used to do charades in sign which was kind of fun. To help us learn to read it as well as sign it.

I love sign language <3
I did my degree in deaf studies becuase of this so now I'm quite a high level and training to become a communication support worker - working with signing students in mainstream education :)
Probably do a masters in intepreting at some point.

Signing is curious to me. I must know 100 people who can sign - but I don't know or see any deaf people signing. I see people signing all over TV when politicians speak - despite transcripted captions of whats being said at the bottom of the screen.

^ written words (captions) are less expressive, sign language is a very visual and less constricted form of communication where emotions and such can be shown through the interpreters facial expressions which would be very useful where sarcasm/metaphor/non-literal meanings are involved.

Now I'll play your ghost as my ace, whenever I'm led astray.
But I am actually good, can't help it if we're tilted.
I'm in my right place, don't be a downer.

This, but also a lot of deaf people find reading and writing English difficult due to poor education. A lot of deaf people may as well have had barely any with the amount they're able to understand.
So subtitles aren't a solution. They can be excessively hard work as well as everything Marie said

What Caz and Auror. said. and Jack I find that surprising, most people I know who are deaf sign, although a lot also speak (albeit sometimes unclearly) and lip read. I've also seen a fair few strangers out about signing.

At first, I thought you were going to talk about the language of different sighs (as that is in the title). Like the frustrated sighs, the tired sighs, the indecisive sighs... Silly me. Sign language is fascinating. It's great that you are passionate about it!!
