After cutting or bruising, I often feel tired. Light headed (even though with cutting I don't bleed a lot). I get the same feeling with bruising, probably due to the endrophines. Blank I guess you could say.

Anyone else ever get this?

Hi Emily, I've had this maybe a few times, but i've usually come to the conclusion it's due to losing blood (also I don't really like the sight of blood!). But it could be that you are experiencing a 'rush' from the self harm, as you mention, causing a release of endorphin's, so making you feel light headed.

However this could be sue to something else which isn't noticeable, do you think you would be able to speak to your GP about this?

Have you ever looked fear in the face and said "I just don't care"?

This is going to sound stupid, but we've been having trouble finding a GP I feel comfortable with. At this point, I don't feel comfortable talking about my self-harm with my current doctor. Having had bad experiences with a GP who I'd seen for years and thought I could trust with my SH really put me off ever mentioning it to a doctor again. (we're going to find a new one. However long that takes.)

most doctors have confidentiality where they can't tell anyone based on the laws they're following in order to practice. by the way--no one should look down on you for SH. if a doctor is looking down on you or acting like you have no reason to be doing what you're doing, they're not worth seeing.

as far as the light-headedness, you might want to make sure you don't have anemia. if you're not experiencing major blood losses when you're noticing the symptoms it could just be an endorphin rush or an adrenaline high but it's pretty crazy all the chemical make up and how its effected by cutting, bruising etc. finding a GP who respects you and knows how hard it is to get over an addiction like SH would be really good, just to have an idea of any other possible mental issues might be going on.

good luck and i wish you the best! <3

Thank you guys. With cutting, I don't lose a lot of blood so i am thinking it's an endorphine rush. Probably the same with bruising too. Will keep you folks posted.

Hi celticroots
I get it (and I certainly don't loose much blood at all) so I agree it must be an endorphin thing!
In my case I am in such an emotional frenzy that it for the most part stops it and then I'm exhausted so I think mine is due to the pre emotion marathon that I've effectively ran
Either way - go see a doctor and get checked out it could be something else!!

I don't understand myself... I'm searching for the person I am, and the person I want to be..
