Contains Suicide - Lost my job...
Lost my job last week. And the pissy thing is that it's the only place in over 100 miles that I can work using my degree. I knew the job was on the rocks for several months now. Wrote a suicide note, but then deleted it. Right now I'm only living for my wife and two kids. Nothing like trying your best and it not being good enough. So we gotta sell our house and find another job.. I hate selling myself, I am not good at finding work, even though I graduated with honors..
Thanks for reading..

I'm sorry to hear that you have lost your job Brian, does your wife know how you are feeling at the moment?
I'm terrible at selling myself a job situation also, one thing I found helpful when completing job applications and preparing for interviews etc was not to think about how I viewed myself in that particular situation but think about about what things my colleagues or friends would view my strengths in that situation.
I hope you find a new job soon.

My wife knows I'm upset, and have these thoughts, but she doesn't know to what extent they are.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your job. I know how difficult it is after losing your job. And then add having to move. *hugs*
I am also horrible at selling myself. I found that when hubby and I got laid off that doing a mock interview helped relieve some stress when the actual interview came. We knew what types of questions would be asked and how we would handle it.
I hope you are able to find a new job soon! <3

Sometimes when I say "I'm okay," I want someone to look me in the eyes, hug me tight, and say "I know you're not."

Hi Brian
I'm so sorry to hear about your job and that you're feeling so low at the moment.
I don't think the loss of the job is any reflection on your capabilities - you say you've known it's been on the rocks for some time. Unfortunately, there are so many factors outside of our control at the moment (economy etc) that it's probably not about you but the company for which you worked. Please don't doubt yourself or dwell on it. It's a buyers' market and you have a degree so you are well placed to find something bigger and better, even it it doesn't initially allow you to use your degree and means you may have to relocate. I know it's hard to see this at this time but try to see this as a chance to change yours and your family's lives for the better. This change will bring you new opportunities.
Sometimes not being able to sell yourself isn't a bad thing - any decent employer will know that interviews etc are not everything: you have a proven track record. People who are great at selling themselves are often all bluster.
Please tell your wife how you are really feeling and give her an opportunity to help and support you. You'd want to know if she were feeling this way I'm sure. Please also reach out to other sources of support. You are not defined by your job. You are a father, husband and so much more and you are much loved.
I hope that this doesn't come over as overly flippant or blasé as that's not my intention. I know it's hard to focus on positives when things seem so bleak. Please try and shift your focus to the chances that this brings.
Take care
-R-

Hey Brian,
Just saw this and thought I'd post to check how you're doing these days?
You're so valuable, don't let a job tell you that you're not. Keep trying, something will work out for you.
*sends hugs*

Thanks for the encouragement. I am doing better, but still down about the situation. We are now on government assistance, and my dad is helping as well. I have applied to several jobs, but no responses yet.

it is good to keep applying. i know it can be hard when you don't hear anything for so long, but you've got to be in it to win it or so they say! keep applying and something good will come your way x

I realize it has been a few weeks since you've been on this thread, but I hope things have improved or will start looking up for you soon. I have no doubt that you will find employment soon, if not already. You're an intelligent and well-qualified person from all that I know. I still remember that magazine cover you had. You're in my thoughts.

Things will get better over time.
Hang in there.
Focus on your family and yourself. Volunteer to help other people or animals.
Losing a job is tough and can take a while to process the emotions of a lost job if you feel you were wronged, nevermind the financial changes.
You are and weren't your job. Hang in there.

Been there mate. Sucks.
Just remember in the dark times that the kids a need dad's love and guidance more than a dad that has a great job. When they grow up, Are they going to remember the times you came home after a hard days work, or the times you tried your best, made them laugh and feel loved?
Being unemployed is a downer, but you aren't a failure. Your first and only job for now is being dad.
Hang in there bro.
