I am currently:
I'm a drug addict who wants to be a pharmacist

I recognize that this is a terrible idea.

But I'm well on my way. Applying to pharmacy schools now. Very likely to be accepted given grades and test scores.

The thing is I don't want to be a pharmacist because of easy access to drugs, I want to help people.

But idk if I'll be able to manage. The temptation. I have little to no self-control.

I need to get clean. But idgaf anymore.

I hope this really is the right path for you.

Hopefully you can centre your focus on helping people.

Remember you can't do that if you help yourself to drugs.

'Cause I'll always remember you the same.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not currently in treatment for anything, though I probably should be. I really struggle with other mental health issues (dysthymia with major depression), so there's a lot to work on. I just don't know where to start. I'm in the U.S., so things are kind of complicated. I haven't been able to afford any kind of treatment until very, very recently, and now that I can, I don't know what to do.

Staying out of specializations that would be tempting is really good advice. It hadn't even really occurred to me. I'm still researching programs and specializations, and that's definitely something I'm going to look into.

I've wanted to do this since I was 16, and I spent a good 10 years screwing up my life before I managed to get to a point where I might be able to make this happen. I want to get better and finally do it.

You're right, and I know it could be a problem. But I've still got a year before I even enter a program, and then it's four years or more until I'm actually practicing. I really want to be in a better place by then. It's just a matter of finding the motivation and overcoming the little voice in my head telling me I'm going to screw everything up anyway so why bother.
