Anyone else need high doses of benzos for even a slight effect?
I am resistant to diazepam, lorazepam doesn't really do much unless I hit the BNF maximum, and my clonazepam prescription (PRN) is useless. I was prescribed a one-off dose of temazepam while in hospital to make me sleep and I got a grand 6 hours of sleep on it.
The only meds that sedate me at all are high dose antipsychotics. Medium- or low-dose antipsychotics don't give me any CNS side-effects.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I ask because I'm faced with the challenge of convincing my GP that 10mg diazepam is going to do f*** all to calm me down for procedures.
Additional: I am wondering if I'm a fast metaboliser in certain cytochrome P450 enzymes...I am on 20mg (going on to 25mg soon) olanzapine and I struggle to get enough sleep.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.
I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.
Thank you for the input. I'm considering to ask for intravenous sedation anyhow. That might work better.

The tolerance bit makes sense. Metabolism of drugs can increase and tolerance is common with such meds.

Yes. When I was on a section when I was 15 I took an OD of diazepam and was still pretty with it. I remember just wanting to be able to sleep. Useless and not recommended!
I take 10mg Olanzapine every evening and have 10mg Diazepam PRN . Both used to knock me sideways but I've been on them long enough that they both have far less impact now..

I've never felt anything on Lorazepam, not even the first time they gave it to me. I remember that another patient who weighed twice as much as me slept for hours with the same dose. I went shopping. Hahaa.
Anyway, it sucks when I have an emergency and NEED something to take the edge off things and nothing is working.
You survived the abuse.
You're gonna survive the recovery.
I am on a very high dose of various meds for sleep...it's not a case for me of being used to them they just didn't work until I reached this dose.

I haven't asked for IV meds yet, as I've decided to forget about seeing a gynaecologist. But should something else come up then I will ask, with the NAS to support me in asking.

Over time people develop a tolerance to some medications due to the body getting used to metabolising them and so creating more of the enzymes to do the job (also the reason why the first time people drink they get drunk on very little alcohol but after a while it takes more and more alcohol for them to get drunk). This doesn't happen with all meds but commonly does with benzodiazepines (Diazepam/ Lorazepam/ Clonazepam...) which do also cross- interact with each other too. So, it is normal that if you've took any of them for a while they will become less effective, potentially even if you have them swapped for another one in the same group.
Yeah true. I remember that from psychopharmacology lectures. I was wondering how widespread this is.
