Occupational Therapist

Hi,

I see my Psychologist twice weekly and GP every few weeks. It was mentioned to me that an occupational therapist may be helpful to me in between my therapy sessions. Has anyone had any experience of an OT?

I saw an OT when I was 17. She worked with the adolscent out reach team and saw me once a week but I can't remember too much about it apart from that she used to see me at my school or at home.

My cc is an OT and she's great. They deal with more practical things like helping you structure your day or applying to college and stuff.
We also talk about how im feeling and what she can do to help.

I have dyslexia so please excuse my poor spelling and sometimes poor understanding.

There are some trainee OTs on here. I think their job's vary quite a lot dependent on your needs so it might be worth talking to her about what she can offer you.

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do.
We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us.
We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

I guess it depends in what capacity you need the OT for.

Mental health wise they can run groups like art, drama, coping skills etc that you might be able to join. Or if they see you at home they can help support you structure your day and overcome problems.

If you see an OT medically then they can help with overcoming pain, injuries, helping you adapt your house if needed, help with eating and so on.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.

I worked with an OT after coming out of hospital, she helped me apply to college and find some voluntary work and also referred me to the princes trust which ran an outdoor programme that i attended. in all, i found it really useful to have an OT.
