So I was discharged from the cmht about a year ago (against my wishes) (I had been under mh services for 6 years) and then about 3 months later went to a&e as my gp had reduced my Meds and if elf very unstable. I was then put under the home treatment team who changed my Meds to quetiepine. I told them at the time I was very sedated and wanted to come off it but said to wait and see and then discharged me back to my gp.
A bout a year later it has NOT got better, I have asked my gp to change medication for 2 reasons: 1. Me and husband want to try for another child 2. I am unable to look after my son in the mornings until about 11am as I am pretty much comatosed on the sofa.
This morning things came to a head because my son managed to climb on the kitchen counter (where my medication is kept and knives) he also managed to get into a cupboard and get an electric drill, his drill bits (so sharpe and maybe he could have swallowed) and an entire tool box so hammers. He had to pull these off a shelf as could have very much hurt himself in the process.
I have been waiting 2 months to hear back about changing medication!! I'm very angry part of me what's to stop cold turkey but I'm scared about to unwell to drive and therefore work or able to care for my son on my own.
What can I do?? This is effecting my child's health now! I'm desperate!!
could you try to get an appointment with your gp asap? usually they have something like emergency appointments or similar.
there are 2 versions of quetiapine, which one are you taking? One is making you tired after about 1 hour and the other one after about 3 hours. the version that makes you tired after 3 hours takes longer to be absorbed and therefore it takes longer for the tiredness to wear off in the morning. I had problems getting up in the morning for school because of this, so I got changed to the other version. Now I get tired sooner after I take it but I'm more awake in the mornings.
and I would NOT recommend you to stop quetiapine cold turkey! I forgot to take it 3 times and I had bad withdrawal symptoms to the point where I almost had to throw up.

I don't know what one I'm on I asked my gp but she has no idea. Can't get an emergency appointment now cos it's too late! I will have to wait until Monday. But thank you for your reply
Have you got the packet of the medication with you? Can you see exactly what it says? If it says something like XR or extended release or slow release then it's probably the version that takes a while to make you sleepy and lasts longer.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

^this.
If you are taking the original (Seroquel) then there is XR printed on the tablets.

Saw my gp and she is trying to contact my old therapist (who is head of the service I was under) if she can't she is going to get home treatment team to see me today (if possible) because I'm quite complex (I've been on a lot of anti-pyshcotics) she thinks I need to be seen by a psychiatrist as it's abit out of her remit. I'm happy she agreed it needs to get sorted today. Because my son is in danger.
Can you get referred to a psychiatrist out of cmht by your gp? I am in denmark but the first psychiatrist i saw was not within the psychiatric system as there was too long waiting lists and i needed to see one fast. There was "only" 3 months waiting list with him though i had to travel pretty far to see him. It didnt cost me anything as my gp referred me.
Also, i agree that it is out if your gp's expertice to make decisions about your medication. So if she cant get in contact with your old therapist who can explain things, ask if you can get referred to someone outside cmht and whether it would cost you anything. There are plenty and also very good psychiatrists that are not a part of cmht so it may be an option.

My gp called me back and the consultant from my old team (who I only saw 4 times in total) is going to review my situation tomorrow and then speak to the deuty gp who will then ring me but the gp said to miss tonight's dose so I can stay awake tomorrow as my husband won't be in the house.
I'm abit worried about it because I've made all this fuss about the medication making me drowsy but what it's just me choosing to sleep or I'm too lazy? I've always been very lethargic since I was 16...I spent my GCSE year only going to school for 2 hours a day because I was so tired I couldn't get out of bed or walk around too much. It sounds crazy when I even talk about that because I hardly remember it like it's just a story I've read not that it actually happened.
Anyway my point is what if tomorrow morning I'm still asleep? Then I will feel like a fraud making it out to be the drugs :(
It is probably a good idea to see your GP for a blood test to make sure the tiredness doesn't have a physical cause like anaemia or underactive thyroid.

I've had loads of blood tests throughout the years I'm physically fine, there is no real reason for my tiredness.
After a lot of phone calls on Friday (and having my talk to my old psychologist.. Which was uncomfortable because I don't feel go great about her and her hearing my son in the background and commenting on how cute it is he is talking and she wishes she could see him again..which is just all abit weird!!) I was told just before the go closed on Friday night to reduce my Dose to 200mg and that I will see the assessment psychiatrist on Wednesday so review my medication. All I can say is thank god for the new persctiption service that sends it's straight to your registered pharmacy. All I had to do was pop In to asda and get it.
I took the pill and I had never been so relived to be dragged to sleep rather then fighting to sleep with constant nightmares.
I saw the assesment psychtrist at the cmht today and she said she had never met me but from reading my notes and how well I'm coping with stress at the moment she does not think I have a psychotic illness and my experiences are unexplained and could have been due to stress. I explained that I no longer think I have bpd because I do not get self harm thoughts and they kept saying stuff I had thought/done in the past which I had totally forgotten about or had no recollection which just made me very uncomfortable.
The psychitrst asked what I felt last time I was off anti-psychotics and I said my mind used to race and I couldn't grab onto a thought and got very overwhelmed by noise especially in public and they said it was probably anxiety.
Anyway I'm going to come off quetiepine totally so should be off it in 10/15 days ( I found it confusing with all the numbers so my husband is dealing with the doses and days and stuff)
I asked what I should do if I go mental and she says she cannot see that happening but if it does I can go on aripizole ( which I think I've been on before but was very out of it in hospital and I was told last year it says in the notes I was shaking so was taken off it) but if I can't deal with that there is no other a
Anti pyshcotic I could be on because I have been on all of them but I would have to be assessed to see if I do have a psychotic illness.
I do not think I do have a psychotic illness but I'm just worried now that if I do start to think things people do not believe they will think I'm making it up for attention or something?
In the past when I have had thoughts about aliens and cameras I've always had some lucid moments when I've questions my thoughts but the fear and worry hits me. What if I did just do it for attention?
