Tablet change to citalopram

Recently my counsellor decided that maybe I should consider going back on anti-depressants, after some initial heated discussions I agreed.
From 16-18 I was on fluoxetine, stopped them for a year on the doctors advise and now at 19 obviously going back on them. However they've put me on citalopram instead.

I know that they take a while to get into your system and at first it can be a bit rough, but I really don't feel like I'm coping with them. I've felt sick since I started them a week and a half ago, I go light headed on a regular basis, I haven't got much of an appetite (which is practically unheard of for me!), I'm practically sleeping 12-14 hours a day, concentration is shot, and I'm constantly burning up.

The sleeping thing I don't mind as such, I struggle with insomnia anyways aswell as nightmares, however these seem to have stopped that, if only temporarily.
Everything else is horrific. I've showered three times today I've been sweating that much!

Just wondering really if anyone else experienced similar things? and if any of this is normal? The fluoxetine never bothered me like this, and I'm honestly not too sure whether I want to carry of with these tablets the way its going. I've got to ring my counsellor tomorrow anyways to sort out an appointment for next week, I'm not sure whether to bring it up with her? or maybe just get a doctors appointment and discuss it there? It's just driving me mad!

The best thing would be to discuss it with your doctor as they will be the one who is able to make changes if need be. Often medication can have side effects but generally after a week or two the side effects will ease so sometimes it is just about sticking it out. However it sounds like the side effects are having a significant effect on you so I would definitely speak to the doctor about it

Yeah think I'm gonna make an appointment with the doctor. I've just spoke to my counsellor, and she's said I should wait till monday, which means i'll have been on them two weeks, and if I still don't feel any better to try get an appointment for that day.

I just feel awful, I've not gone to my lectures today, I feel so sick and I'm overly concious of the fact that I'm sweating a lot so don't really want to go anywhere.

And doctors wonder why people are reluctant to take these things..

I am currently:

With me the nausea from starting citalopram went away after about 10 days.

Many of the SSRI have similar side effects to what you have described and I believe most of them should go away after the first few weeks once your body has chance to get adjusted.

I was the other way around, I could not tolerate the side effects of fluoxetine but with citalopram they went after the first week or so.

I hope things start to improve.

Well today is day ten so hopefully it should start getting a little easier

I hope I start adjusting to them soon, its driving me mad. I'd honestly have given up if two of my friends weren't pushing me too carry on with them. I'm appreciative of them, but they keep pestering.

I know I keep mentioning it, but its the sweating that drives me mad! Went to the supermarket before with one of my flatmates cos we had nothing for tea, I actually left the flat in shorts and a tshirt. First time in 6 years I've worn shorts in public! Doesn't help that the past few days its been 15/16 degrees, which for north wales may as well be the tropics
