Too "Insightful" For Help?

My care coordinator has said that I'm incredibly "insightful" into my illnesses. It was a response from a slightly earlier conversation about hospitalisation. So what I've taken away from that meeting was that I'm too "insightful" for more intensive help. I have too much awareness and understanding to need additional help.

Any opinions? Am I right to feel hurt by this? Like I need to prove that I'm in a hellish place before I'm taken seriously? Words never seem to be enough for these people.

What help were you hoping for from them?

IMHO, your quite right to feel hurt by that.

It sounds like what their trying to say isn't that they don't believe your in a living hell, it's that their trying to say that their bag of tricks can't help you. And that, quite understandably, is an incredibly hurtful thing to hear. Especially as the people who campaign for mental health are so adament that "There *IS* help available to people who are hurting." Something that people like us unfortunately learn the hard way is that those people have no qualms about making a very big promise they don't know if they can keep.

It sounds like they're trying to say that because you're still 'in your right mind' and have capacity and understanding about your illness, they wouldn't be able to offer you hospital treatment. Not saying I agree with that at all but it's how I interpretted it.

Maybe you should clarify with them whether that was what they meant when you next see them? I know that when I was in therapy, often I'd interpret things to mean one thing & if it was brought up again it had sometimes been misinterpretted or I'd been over-sensitive.

I really hope that they offer you some further support soon.

Take care.

Ride it out.

Did they directly say that you were too insightful for more intensive help?

Theoretically given your insight you would know when you need the help and when not. So if they are indeed telling you they don't think it would be helpful, remind them you have insight and know what you need right now.

I've been told I face insight into my illness for many years but it is often respected in the sense of I know what ineed. I hope they can come to the same with you.

I feel like this sometimes. I understand a lot about my illness and sometimes that makes people think I don't need the help I do need.

Try to talk to your team/worker about it.

Imperfection is underrated.

^ This seems like a good idea!

I think it's very reasonable that you felt hurt by that as I would be too. Just because one may have understanding of their illness does not necessarily mean they can control it or know coping mechanisms for when it gets difficult <3

Thank you everyone. I will ask him what he meant because it's been playing on my mind a lot.
