So I'm dead-set against Kindles and think that if you want to read a book, you should read an actual book. At the risk of sounding like an old woman, we seem to spend a lot of time staring at screens & it's nice to escape into a nice paper book. It doesn't seem like it would be the same sort of experience when it's on the same old plastic screen!
I was just wondering whether anyone else shares this perspective - & whether it's the minority or majority opinion, so thought I'd post a poll asking you lovely bunch of people.
I use my iPhone to read any books, although I don't read much.
It's just easier. Cheaper too. Don't have to pay for the book itself or post and packaging. Quicker- book is instantly available, no waiting.
Books annoy me as they make me hands ache when trying to hold them. And if it's night and I wana read while my fiancé sleeps, I don't keep him awake with the lamp.
So she lights up a candle for hope to be found
Captive and blind by the darkness around
Each wave a promise, a new hope reborn
Sunrise consoles at the break of dawn
I prefer the experience of reading an actual book.
But I also have a kindle and love it because of being able to download books easily and often more cheaply, and the convenience of being able to carry around a whole library in the space of a little baby tablet!
So I like both :)
"I know you're sad, so I won't tell you to have a good day. Instead, I advise you to simply have a day.
Stay alive, feed yourself well, wear comfortable clothes, and don't give up on yourself just yet.
It'll get better. Until then, have a day."
i'm in two minds about kindles. i love books, turning the pages etc...but i find i read much quicker using a kindle. you can change the text size, keep your whole library in your bag, it saves space and it is usually cheaper to download a book than buy it.
i started off with a kindle touch which was great, but then i got a kindle fire which really isnt good for reading as its just like looking at a computer screen, i've gone back to a proper kindle now and got a paperwhite :)
i still have some books though, mostly stephen king and books that i have signed
Take my nannas kindle on holiday with me, saves space/weight in the suitcase and I can take as many books as I want. Also think it's great that I can buy a book and read it straight away.
But I still buy books, still regularly go into bookshops or libraries when I'm having a bad day. Can't beat a good book :)
As weird as it sounds I have a thing against the feel of paper against my bare skin, its like nails on a chalkboard for me, so a screen is much more comfortable.
Also it's so much more lighter and personalised, I love being able to change the font and sizes and margins and have a dictionary on hand for whenever needed - it's so convenient!
The screen is not a bother either, kindles have special screens that aren't backlit so they are as gentle to the eyes as books. It's a very strange sensation, it looks more like interactive paper!
I have a problem with the sound and feel of paper, so I prefer a kindle. I love to read, but actual paper prevents me from reading much without my kindle. I also like that I can have so many books in one small thing, so it is easier to take with me when traveling.
Until i got a kindle, i never thought i would like them, but i absolutely love mine and wouldn't be without it, easier to hold, nicer to read at night (i have a paperwhite) being able to download books which are normally cheaper then buying a book and also being able to get lots of free or real cheap books on deal days. Also the fact, they're smaller then books so fit much better in my bag!
It's so easy to get lost in constantly having to present
whatever face you believe a person wants to see rather than your own
I didn't know what to vote but I love books and wasn't sure what I would think but got a kindle as if I hated it I didn't need to use it!
Anyway I love my kindle I find it really handy as it lives in my handbag and I have books there the whole time and can read it when I'm out and about. The screen is odd and it's really easy to read on as it's not lit so it's like a book. The books are really cheap and I'm not having to lug myself to the charity shop or library.
So if there was a choice id go for both I love books but wouldn't be without my kindle

I prefer books, at home I will read a book. But, I have to say the Kindle is the most useful gadget I've ever bought.
First of all it's enabled me to download whole series' of books that I couldn't afford to buy any other way. Not to mention I wouldn't have the storage space for them.
I have over 200 books in my house and I struggle for space. I have over 1000 books currently on my kindle and it takes up one small corner on my shelf.
But more importantly it's just so handy for travelling. Whenever I go out I don't need to try and cram a thick book like Game Of Thrones into my pocket, the Kindle is pocket sized.
Also if I go away somewhere for a week or two, I don't need to try and pack four or five books, I just take my one Kindle.
I do love my books. But the Kindle is just so useful.
Don't be fooled by my smooth skin. The deepest scars are the ones unseen.

Like others have said, I prefer reading books but a Kindle is just so easy sometimes! It's small, you can have hundreds of books taking up the space of less than one book. Also, books are usually cheaper. As for reading on a screen, if you get a regular Kindle rather than the Kindle Fire, it's not backlit so it doesn't strain your eyes anymore than a paperback would.
If you're travelling I'd definitely recommend one but if not I'd stick to books.
