I know there are so many threads asking for others experiences with medications,
could people tell me what their experiences are with this medication,
side effects,
what you are on it for and how well it is working for you,
or has done in the past,
and also regarding weight gain,
I was told this medication unlike others doesn't really have issues with causing weight gain/problems,
but could I please ask your experiences with this medication
and the above?

I am currently on it, it has caused tremors, in my legs and tongue, but am now taking a med to counter act that, unfortunately that med is giving me blurred vision. I've not gained weight on it, I have managed to lose weight on it, the weight that I put on due to olanzapine.
I have EUPD and was put on it my psych says for paranoia, voices and psychotic like symptoms. I've only been on it about 6 weeks, my dose was increased a few weeks ago, which made me really ill, but those side effects die down after a few days, it is just the tremor and shaking which has continued. I don't know how well it is working as I am still very paranoid etc, but I know they want to increase it again for me.
hope some of that was helpful.

I've been in it twice. I came off both times because it caused me to be really agitated and restless.

However, saying that, it was very good for my psychosis. I was put on it after a psychotic episode.
It made me feel a bit sick so as a result I didn't eat much and lost weight. But it didn't really have a effect on my apatite.

I hope you get on with it because it is a really good drug x

Sorry Sarah, do you mind if I butt in on your thread and ask a question? I'm also probably swapping over to this from quitiapine on Monday!

My psych said I'll have to be on both APs for a few weeks due to the risk of psychosis when starting Aripiprazole. Has anyone ever heard of this? Google doesn't seem to be that helpful. I'm being prescribed it to treat Bipolar.

I was on Aripiprazole for a while for psychosis. It made me jittery and restless and didn't do anything for symptoms so I didn't take it for that long.
I didn't put any weight on while I was on it though.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

I was put on it for a short period last summer for OCD/psychotic symptoms. The Dr said that it was least likely of all APs to cause weight gain.,

I had to stop after a week or so. It made me almost comatose during the day, and when I was awake and vaguely conscious, I couldn't open my eyes as they were so light sensitive.

I've been on quite a few anti psychotics and every time they have changed them they have done it like this. It's quite a common way to swop to prevent relapse. It's only for a short period of time so there is less risk of heart problems x

I took it for a few weeks for schizophrenia.
I lost a lot of weight whilst on it and had no other side effects.
However it did nothing for my symptoms, it was like I was unmedicated. I came off it when I ended up psychotic and in hospital.

I took it for about 6 months I think?, then it made me randomly only sleep for about 4-5 hours,. and drove me insane. The doc accidentally didn't give it to me and then started sleeping fine again. Sorry long! It didn't give me any weight problems.

Thank you guys so much for your answers <3

And I don't mind at all Emma for asking your question :)

I am being weaned off Seroquel 300mg down to 150mg and then starting 5mg of Aripiprazole tomorrow too, so will be on both for a few weeks like you.
I know that my psych said it can be quite risky to stop completely, and can make symptoms worse, so needs monitoring very closely for the first few weeks to make sure your mental health state doesn't worsen or other symptoms arise. <3

I have experienced heart problems (I suffer with heart problems but worsened on Seroquel) with Seroquel, so my psych said this medication is much less likely to affect my heart,
however, I've read quite a bit on google about this and it says a lot of side effects can cause problems with the heart,
which I didn't know at all,
so I wanted to know what the statistics are for heart problems,
or if anyone has experienced heart problems on it.

I said to myself NOT to google it as it'll make me anxious to take it, so as soon as I saw the side effects about heart problems, I stopped, before I looked into it too deeply and freaked myself out,
so I thought I'd ask here?

xx

Thanks for replying :). I don't actually have a history of psychosis though which is why it seemed strange, although apparently I lack capacity and have 'unusual' thoughts when 'elevated'.

This med also gave me bad insomnia. I would only sleep about 3 hour a night at first. It did get better though the longer I was on it.

And Emma - it may be that this medication can cause symptoms similar to Psychosis hence why it needs to be closely monitored even if you don't have Psychosis maybe?

I know that with most medications, it can take a while for it to do anything for your symptoms, and I know it can also cause you to feel worse, so maybe it can cause symptoms that weren't there before can arise too?

Hi Sarah,

I hope this new med works for you. I am guilty of googling a medication before I start but it only makes me more worried.

For every single medication out there people with either post to say it's wonderful, or post about a terrible experience. There's no real way of knowing whether you'll have a good, neutral or bad experience unless you try it.

I try everything I am prescribed, if I don't like it then I see my psychiatrist and she tapers me off.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Hey lovely, thank you for your reply, everyone else too!

I know you're right about the fact everyone is different, and I have no idea how I will personally react compared to other people, I just hope I have the good kind of experience rather than the bad :)

Thank you guys so much <3
