I am currently:
loosing weight on olanzapine

Has anyone lost the weight they gained on olanzapine?
If so what was the healthiest way to do it?

I've gained more than im comfortable with but the drug is so good for my symptoms I don't dare come off it.

Thanks

Go see a nutritionist.

It became like a sort of prison. Encased in a silver shell, words so full of bleeding need spilled like drops on dry leaves. And all the while laughter prevailed a long way from here. Nowhere land, nowhere time, nowhere space.

I'm on Olazapine and have put some weight on with it. But like you don't want to come off of it as it helps so much with my symptoms.

Whilst I have put on weight it is slowly coming down. I have been exercising a bit and eating lots of fruit for snacks, and have also been having soups for my lunch and tea.

I don't keep unhealthy foods in, otherwise when I get the munchies I would just binge on them. My friend gets munchies on her AP and she's swapped having chocolate and biscuits to having a punnet of grapes.

I think the key thing which no doubt you know is to eat more healthy and exercise.

The initial weight gain can go down.

Thanks guys.

I do need to increase my exercise I think because I've been pretty lazy lately. I normally run but havnt done much of that lately.

I'll also ask to see a nutrionist and having healthy snacks in the house all the time.

Thanks again.

When I had difficulties with Olanzapine my GP told me to exercise more. I *think* also, maybe look it up for clarification, but I *think* olanzapine can affect your metabolic rate making weight gain easier. The ONLY way to re-adjust it is to exercise: which is why I think my GP told me to exercise.

Eating less won't help either, because that also slows metabolic rate, but like the others have said, changing snacks and eating more fruit and less high density foods (chocolate etc) will help because you get to eat for one, and you're still digesting for two which ought to keep you ticking.

I'm pretty sure it's something along those lines. It might be worth doing some research.

When I was on quetiapine I gain more weight than I was comfortable with. I swapped from eating 3 meals to eating 5-6 meals - 1st breakfast at 7.30, 2nd breakfast at 10.30, 1st lunch 12.30 2nd lunch 3pm and then evening meal at 6 and sometimes a snack in the evening. By eating more but more sensible choices my weight stabilised and then I started to lose the weight I had gained.
