The lady in the dark
There’s a lady who is sure that she knows what she wants
She waits in the dark for him to return
Forty years have gone by but no more tears does she cry
And she waits in the dark for his return
Times were hard on them both, angry words never spoke
And they gave up the dream of believing.
Just as long as they kept every moment in their hearts
The sound of their love softly beating.
Away through the terrace the moon makes its mark
As the sun strives to find a new meaning.
If I told you, you knew her would you believe me
Calm yourself my dear friend, take my hand understand
That you’ve walked through the darkness once again
Hold your head straight up high, never glance or even try
To understand the sorrow she lives with.
Touch her face cold as ice, soon you’ll be there in disguise
Touch her shoulder as she cries for her friend
Feel the warmth of her soul extinguished by the hole
Of that someone who left her, years ago.
If you walk down the road, feel the anger as you go
Take a moment to understand her pain
She’ll be there all her life, in darkness and in light
And she’ll wait in sunshine or in rain
Alone does she cry though she never wonders why
For she knows its not long before he returns.
Walk with me down this street, take my hand as we go
Let’s follow this lady through the night
Watch her legs as she bends, see the torment from within
Hear the noise of the dark, hear the tree’s from the park
Take the time to notice the sound
All that’s left here and now is the silence of the owl
And the cry of the lady far behind.
There’s a lady who is sure that she knows what she wants
She waits in the dark for him to return
Forty years have gone by but no more tears does she cry
And she waits in the dark for his return
And she waits in the dark for his return.
