Hi I'm sorry to be posting again but feel really alone in this n wondered if anybody did the same
I take small overdoses of cocodamol bout two or three times a week these overdoses aren't to kill me but I get a buzz out of doing it I never go to ane cud they aren't worth wasting the nurses time with but big enough to be over the recommended limit
My friend thinks I'm addicted to pain killers cus of this as I've been doing it for a long time wat do u guys think and if so where do I go for help
I take overdoses quite often, but not as often as you. Like yours most of mine aren't to kill me so you are not alone their. For me I get commands to od to save people.
I think at some point you should get a health check just to see if there is any damage being done. And they could simply do that by a blood test and ecg.
If you want help for this I would speak to your GP they will be able to hopefully refer you on for some support or treatment.
'Cause I'll always remember you the same.
Oh eyes like wild flowers within demons of change ♥
I've been on strong pain killers for years and know the "warm buzz" they can give you. However, OD'ing on paracetamol based opiates, like co Codamol can cause organ damage; it's very dangerous.
Why do you take pain killers? Are you in physical pain? Which strength are you on? Please try and talk to your GP about this as a pain killer addiction is very serious (talking from personal experience)
like others have said, any overdose can be dangerous, i would suggest going back to whoever prescribed you the painkillers and tell them how you ahve been taking them, they may just want to do a blood test or ECG to check that you are in good health.
take care x
I take overdoses daily,
and like you,
one of the medications I do this with is Co Codamol,
the highest strength,
so am unsure of your dosage,
but whatever dosage,
co codamol is part paracetamol
- this is INCREDIBLY dangerous.
Even a minor overdose can cause massive organ damage,
I was told this by my nurse,
who now has to check my liver frequently to assess any damage or changes due to these overdoses,
so at least get someone to check you out and get a blood test for a basic assessment of your levels, on your organs such as liver[most important] and kidneys, and anything else that could be affected by these overdoses.
Have you any professional support?
It would be best to talk to someone about this, as this can be a very volatile situation,
because your health could change very suddenly if any damage is done,
and a lot of the time,
you don't appear to have any symptoms
especially with liver damage,
and sometimes,
it's too late for them to reverse this damage
especially if it is severe,
this can be LIFE THREATENING if it is not caught in time.
Please do talk to someone about this.
It is massively dangerous,
and your health and the situation could change dramatically.
As I said, regardless of the dosage, whether it's the lower or higher dosage of codeine, it still has 500mg of paracetamol per pill[unless instructed otherwise], and paracetamol is very dangerous, as only a small amount of it can cause massive organ damage, and possible failure.
You really need to have your bloods tested, particularly for your liver.
When you see your GP, you don't really have to tell them the reasons for having a blood test if you are adamant you don't want them to know, you could just say you would like to request a blood test for reasons I do not feel comfortable to share at this moment or just request a blood test to make sure everything is okay.
I would recommend telling your GP the reason though, as this way, they can be more specific in what exactly they're testing, and why, and the things to look out for.
If you are in DBT, you usually have to be willing to give up all damaging behaviours, could you speak to someone there about this?
They could try and help you with it, or speaking to your support worker/social worker, whoever is easiest to speak to, or to write this down on paper and give it to someone you see, so they can help you with this.
Trust me, this is a road that can swerve very quickly into dangerous waters, your health could change very dramatically and suddenly,
as well as the fact that although this may not kill you immediately short term,
in the long term,
minor overdosing frequently can be more dangerous than one big overdose,
because your body is being consistently attacked by these overdoses time and time again,
so it can eventually wear your body down,
to the point it can no longer function,
and damage will occur,
sometimes irreversibly damage because it isn't caught in time,
and eventually,
due to this,
death.
Please, please, see someone as soon as you can about this.
I understand completely, but it is very dangerous, and the situation as well as your health could be severely compromised, damage/death is a very real risk here, it's not a matter of "if", it's a matter of "when" if you continue doing this.
I know it can be difficult to give up damaging behaviours, but it can be done over time, and with the right help, but you have to be willing and committed to stopping these behaviours, no one can do it for you, it has to ultimately come from you.
About 10 years ago before i met my husband and i was on my own i would do this daily as well as drinking whiskey ... i wouldn't go to the hospital to get checked out and when i told my dr i was doing this he said nothing like it was dangerous or anything he just said too late now for me to do anything
I still try to OD now but my husband keeps my medication and am not allowed money just in case i OD ... please tell your dr he/she should do something about it unlike my dr
If you can try not to buy any more pills even if it means giving someone your money to hold it for you
* hugs *
I have been a chronic pain patient for 14 years. In the last 3 years I have been taking Vicodin (norco) one thing is for sure, i am quite addicted . However i have been taking them so long that i get no buzz or high feeling whatsoever. I take them just not to feel sick. They used to work wonders for my pain, but now its like what taking tylenol is to most people.
Paracetamol is acetaminophen basically tylenol. What every one else is saying is true it's quite dangerous to you hepatic system (liver) if nothing else, there are ways of extracting the tylenol to make them safer for you to take, however your best bet is to consult with the doc about you're abuse of the meds. Doctors understand how addictive opiates are.
You can slowly wean yourself off these meds Which is the safest way to get clean. Good luck.

I haven't taken one since sat I so want to though I'm using my Dbt skills but I soo want to take another one I don't feel in control wat do I do I'm scared to go to the gp incase he will dismiss it n tell me to get a grip
But there is an end to this and you will get through this Cheryl. There was a time last year where you hadn't taken a overdose in a few weeks and you were doing so well and saw the pointto everything and had hope. When you went to Australia you didn't take a overdose and you were gone for quite a while and you know you're dbt skulls inside out. You're really good at using them when you have to to prevent yourself from taking a overdose. You said to me recentlythat you're taking lots of overdose and going to the train station quite frequently but can't step in front of the train but that shows there's something about it all that is prevent you from killing yourself because you know how much roughly would kill you through an overdose and there's something doing you from sterling you from sterling in front off the train and its not already the train conducter as you can fight to ask step in front of the train if you really thought that was the only way to die. This ALL shows that party ofyou is stillfighting toget better, some part of you wants to get through this rough time hence why you go to see your social worker and your dbt therapist, your psychiatrist and all your support workers. You can do this or you wouldn't be seeking helping.
What do you want from this thread? What sort of help do you think you need?

Your GP will not dismiss this.
Legally, they cannot dismiss something like this.
Especially as you have been doing damaging behaviors to yourself that can cause serious consequences.
They are obliged to make sure you are okay, and to check you over, basic blood tests, specifically for the liver and other things that can be more commonly affected by overdoses of this nature, and looking out for things that could be damaged or affected by these overdoses.
I assure you, they will not dismiss this or tell you to get a grip.
At the very least, your health would be number one priority at checking out, if nothing else.
Please seek help.
Tell someone what's going on with these overdoses, how it makes you feel, and stopping this.
You say you don't feel in control -
Overdosing will not give you any control whatsoever.
Your body will react to these overdoses unpredictably,
you have NO control over how your body will react to these overdoses,
you can't take an overdose
and then tell your body to not be damaged from them or control how it reacts,
so how are you in control by overdosing
when you will be the exact opposite
and OUT of control in how your body will react?
I'm proud you have not taken one since Sat, that is a massive achievement, which shows you, you CAN do this, you CAN fight these urges, despite feeling you can't, or it being too difficult, you CAN.
Keep using your DBT skills, and please talk to someone professionally about this, as well as going to your GP to have your health and bloods checked out.

^^ I am also a chronic pain patient, and take 3 different painkillers for my health conditions, and I agree with everything Evan has said, too,
especially about weaning yourself off these medications,
unless you actually need them for something, pain or other things this medication can help with,
but if you do need them for something,
please stay within the recommended dosages,
and can cause damage / failure,
and a lot of problems with other things medically, too,
and with this frequent overdosing,
death can be a very real risk here.

Keep trying to use your DBT skills, they can be very handy in helping you to cope.
Could you try and gain some control in a healthier manner?
I agree with this ^^

I understand this completely.
You swap behaviors, so when you cannot do one behavior, you swap for another, and the cycle continues, until YOU decide to stop this cycle.
Only you can do that, though.
You have to be 100% committed to stopping ALL behaviors, that is usually one of the conditions for DBT, otherwise it won't work as well as it could if you were completely committed to stopping, and engaging in getting help, and such.
I understand, really, I do, it is extremely difficult, but it is worth it.
You have to decide this for yourself, though.
No one can force you, it has to come from you 100%.
I hope you choose the right thing here, you deserve better, and you deserve to get better, and you deserve help, but you have to take advantage of that help 100%, you have to be committed, and prepared to make changes that are going to be very difficult, but also so worth it.

^^ Agree with all of this.
"because you know how much roughly would kill you through an overdose"
However, one thing that I'd like to point out is that you can actually die from doing these frequent minor overdoses,
and at the very least, cause damage,
sometimes irreversible damage,
I have been told this by many professionals, nurses, doctors, and have researched it myself, too,
yes,
majority of people know how much would kill you through a large overdose,
but small overdoses that are taken frequently can be just as damaging, if not more so,
with a large overdose, your body, if survives, is given time to recover from the overdose,
however, with small overdoses that are taken frequently,
your body is not given time to recover,
it is being attacked time and time again,
and this can cause massive consequences
damage to the organs,
and can cause death, too.
But I agree with everything else.

Wat I want from this thread is bit of support n not to feel alone which already has helped
On the contrary,
as I have said above,
"small overdoses that are taken frequently can be just as damaging, if not more so,
with a large overdose, your body, if survives, is given time to recover from the overdose,

The overdoses you are taking are completely able to kill you, at the very least, damage you, if not death.
You need to have your health checked out, and it is massively important to have blood tests to find out if everything is okay.
With paracetamol, even small overdoses of this medication can lead to severe damage, and death for some people
[as all bodies are different, and react in different ways, so one person could take a small amount of paracetamol in a overdose, and die, and another could survive with no damage whatsoever, and another could have damage, but reversible]
I know you enjoy the buzz, but that buzz will end up either damaging you, or killing you.
You have people who can help you, something that some people don't have access to, please take advantage of that, tell someone.
It is completely your decision though, no one can force you to stop doing these damaging behaviors, or if you choose to refuse to seek help, or if you continue to engage in them, etc.
I just sincerely hope you make the right decision.

Reason: removing dosage details as per the rules
I'm gona try getting into the docs tomorrow evening
I know I'm lucky to have the support I have I'm just scared they will say it's nothing n that I shud use my Dbt skills I am I really am it's just hard
So, you swap behaviors when you are unable to another behavior.
This is unbelievably common.
However, we have to learn to stop ALL behaviors, rather than swapping for another one.
This is incredibly difficult, and I completely understand, because I have done it, too, and I still do.
It can take a long time to learn to cope without engaging in damaging behaviors, but it can be done, and it is not hopeless.
DBT can help you learn crucial skills, especially in trying to manage without the behaviors you are so used to doing, and accustomed to coping through these methods.
I am certain if you tell someone professionally, they will not just say it is nothing.
But you have to take that step in telling someone about this, as well as committing to stopping all behaviors, and engaging with professionals.
It can be very scary and feel like it is impossible to do this, but it is completely worth it in the end.
You said yesterday you would try and get to the doctors this afternoon - have you been able to do this? I hope so.
