Personal Piece- Contains upsetting material - "They Say..." (a poem about domestic violence)
They Say......
They say that Domestic Violence is something that only happens to women...
I beg to differ.
They say that men cannot be victims and that women cannot be perpetrators...
I beg to differ.
I beg to differ because I was in a abusive relationship.
When I was younger, I was the one being abused.
I always thought it was my fault. If I stopped doing whatever I did to make her do it, she would stop. I stopped, she continued.
She always had excuses.
"You pushed my buttons. If you had just left me alone I wouldn't have hurt you."
I wasn't bothering you
"I'm really stressed out right now. You should understand. I hurt you because I was under stress."
There is a cure for stress, it's called masturbation, not abuse
"If you had just done what I told you to do I wouldn't have hurt you."
Slavery died in 1833
"I don't hit you with a fist so it's not really abuse."
Abuse is Abuse no matter how you sketch it
"I'm just trying to take care of you by telling you what to do.I control you because I care about you."
Bullshit. Love is not Control. Love is loss of control in a beautiful way.
No-one believed me. I remember what the police said
“Bollocks! Just go home and grow a pair”.
No-one should ever have to go through what I went through.
Ever.
