I think I have a problem.

Hi,

I think I may have a problem. I've been denying it for months but I think it's starting to get serious and I don't know what to do.

I started using the strongest dose of Co-Codamol for a gynaecological condition taking the maximum dose everyday. Over the last few months, I've found myself taking over the safe dose. I tried not to take them and felt incredibly unwell; it was horrible.

I don't really know what to do. I'm taking them because I am genuinely in pain and have a diagnosed condition that causes pain but I find, even on the days where the pain isn't as severe, I'm still taking a lot of pain relief.

I suffer with depression, an eating disorder and anxiety on top of this and everything just feels a bit too much.

I'm in an induced early menopause also; I'm 22. Everything just feels unbearable.

I'm scared to try and speak to my GP in case she stops the medication. I need the medication because I am in pain but I think there is an aspect of addiction in there.

Thanks for reading.

x

Could you tell your doctor that the highest safe dose is not working if you're not ready to discuss the taking too much part? It sounds like you need a different type of medication since you say it genuinely doesn't work.

It sounds like you really need to speak to your doctor - this medication can be addictive so you would start to feel withdrawal symptoms if you don't take the level of dosage that you have been - in this case over the prescribed dose.

Is the reason you've been prescribed a long term issue?

Your GP will understand that you do need a form of painkiller but it might be better to switch to a less addictive form...even just to give yourself a break from the current one.

Take care,

I was thinking about the medication being addictive , you could look up support online or locally to you for this if you are worried about speaking to your GP.

I think you will have to talk to them eventually but you could get help with how to do it or how to cut down the meds on your own first.

They had a big segment on the radio the other day about how addictive codeine can be so you're not alone.

Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60's. Or maybe I was just a girl... interrupted.
I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside. I tried groups, didn't work out just made my depression a lot worse.
