hey all
I have recently been to my pysch dr as an emergency appointment and Dr K thinks I may have BPD as I am going through a crisis situation. Can anyone shed a light and explain it to me and what it all means in their own words. Thanks
Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60's. Or maybe I was just a girl... interrupted.
I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside. I tried groups, didn't work out just made my depression a lot worse.
Well skinney love borderline is over diagnosed these days. They pretty much label every one borderline if they reach out for help in a crisis. Don't be so quick to believe what they diagnose you with. The mental health system is so messed up they will diagnose you with all kinds of **** and the funny thing is you have to have all the symptoms not just one to make the diagnosis. I'm not a therapist and I know this which is pretty sad. Like I remember being diagnosed with paranoid at the hospital just because I kept looking out my room and running to my bed when they came. I was smiling and laughing while doing that. JUST BECAUSE OF THAT IM SERIOUS. Its like really wow. I told them no im not paranoid I was just trying to get attention. And then I got diagnosed with something else just because I was rolling my eyes a lot. I was doing that because I was pissed off at what they were saying so I was rolling my eyes like people do when there annoyed. Thats what Im saying the mental health system is so messed up they diagnose you with **** over maybe one symptom you have which is not right because you have to have all of them or at lest 5 or whatever not just one. Of course none of those disorders sticked I was angry when they said I had stuff that I never been diagnosed with in my life and just because I did one little thing I was labeled with something which is totally not right. But they finally came to the conclusion I didn't have that stuff. And I had a talk to them about how you have to ask people why there doing something before your quick to label some one with a disorder. Like I explained to them if I was praying it would look like I was talking my self I bet you they would label the person with scizophenia right off the bat but if the therapist just asked what you were doing they would see oh they were just talking to god that's not schizophrenia. Like in my case did they ask why I was rolling my eyes nope so they labeled me with a disorsder instead of asking me first why I did it which was because I was annoyed. The mental health system is so messed up trust me I have been in it and seen what is totally messed up. Like what I explained above what happened to me Im shocked they call them self therapist they want to lable you with something so fast what needs to change is therapist need to ask the patient why there doing something before labeling some one with a mental disorder.
So what im getting at is trust your instinct if you don't think you have borderline then you probably don't. Don't always believe what they label you right away because its not always right. Get a second opinion to find out if its true or not and also go with your instincts. I have been diagnosed with so much **** its just crazy most of it was not true so they dropped it. The only ones they think I have is anxiety, bipolar and borderline. I only agree with the borderline and anxiety I know for sure im not bipolar. At the end of the day you are who you are try your best every day and that's all that matters your not a disorder your not a label. I truly believe I have been through all these bad experiences and messed up experiences and weird experiences to make me a better therapist one day I have seen what's messed up so I will do better and try my best for it not to happen.
But she said that it all fits into place what I have done plus other stuff like texting friends constantly not wanting to let them go and becoming more clingy to graham

She doesn't think its because of the crisis it's because I have had the symptoms almost a year

Oh okay well my best advice is to go with your instincts. And make sure it is your instincts telling you that you do have it or don't have it and not denial. Sometimes there wrong you know your self better than they do. Go with your instincts if you think you don't have it then explain why to them. Get a second opinion if you want. Take it one day at a time. Good luck.
I'm sorry Lauri, I think you are being over critical. Yes it is diagnosed alot however each person has to fit 5 out of the 9 symptoms making it very different for each person. The way you've been treated does not reflect in how others may or may not be treated.
Skinny love, how do you feel about the diagnosis? Do you see how you may fit into the criteria. To be honest in my opinion it doesn't matter to much in regards to the diagnosis but the way how they treat the symptoms you seem to be showing. Is there any word to how you are going to be treated to reduce some of your symptoms and ways you can see that the fear of abandonment with your friends may not need to be fears?
Hope it's goes okay and you get the right treatment to help you lots x

just trying to help that's all. Still could happen to you. You never know till it happens. Just making you aware that's all. Be naive that's fine.
There are people here who have been involved with mental health services a lot longer than you, and have a lot more insight -.-
Skinnylove, I'm glad you trust the doctor, and hopefully if you get the correct diagnosis, then you can start getting the treatment that will actually help :)
I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
But what does it mean for my parents and obviously my friend graham?

Honestly it sounds like you want this disorder to get attention. Having a mental disorder is not cool and borderline has a huge stigma. I'm just saying don't try to have a mental disorder when you don't. Its not cool or fun. If you do have it then get help. But like I said best advice is trust your instinct if you feel you don't have it then you probably don't. Good luck skinney love.
Im done talking on here so don't address me on here again.

Reason: Removed flaming.
There is still some stigma, not gonna lie, but most professionals now tend to try and treat symptoms, not the diagnosis.
In my experience, its the older nurses and doctors that are less tolerant.
My psych and cpn are more "new school" and don't really put so much emphasis on my diagnosis.
Lauri Lauri, if you have a problem with me, you can report the post to the mods or PM me.

I dont think Ellie is being naive at all to trust her doctor.
Lauri I think you are basing your extreme opinions on your own difficulties with your diagnosis and treatment, and that isnt fair to Ellie, who is potentially being given a new diagnosis and is clearly quite overwhelmed.
Flaming people is helping nobody.
Ellie, as Beckie said, you are still the same person :) if you choose to tell your loved ones, make sure you read up as much as you can about the disorder and your own symptoms, and give them some material to help them understand?
No I do not want this diagnosis for attention, I just want to believed thats whats happened in the last 18 months has been due to mental health rather than attention seeking. I have had a **** a year and it seems to be getting worse every single, every single day i get rejected, i react badly, i take longer to get better from it and then something serious happens and then it repeats
this is what qualifies me for a dx
you have emotions that are up and down (for example, feeling confident one day and feeling despair another), with feelings of emptiness and often anger I am either really happy or really miserable and depressed and often feel empty and life isn;t worth living anymore
you find it difficult to make and maintain relationships I often find it hard to make friends due to low self esteem and I often cannot maintain them for long
you have an unstable sense of identity, such as thinking differently about yourself depending on who you are with
I am going on opposite sides of people of people for example ranting about someone and then saying to them how much I like them.
you take risks or do things without thinking about the consequences I tried to jump out of my friend's car due to an argument I didn't plan it it was impulse, i then signed up for a course in education studies without worrying the concequences, i didn't think about the money I would need to pay for it and as result ended in debt. Please note I was also attacked in October 2011 when I first started the course so I wasn't in th right frame of mind.
you harm yourself or think about harming yourself (for example, cutting yourself or overdosing) I have harmed myself and self poisoned myself various times and occassionally i thought about ending it
you fear being abandoned or rejected or being alone
I am always fearing that one day I am gonna lose all my friends in one hit and i often feel rejected and alone
iam currently in a relationship right now thats always on the rocks, we seem to be having more arguments on daily basis and its really affecting my self esteem

Hi,
It sounds like you've got a lot on your plate right now, and it's really nice to hear that you trust your doctor. That's a really important thing to have and will really help you in coming to terms and recovering from your difficulties.
Its really good to hear you coming to terms with this diagnosis and seeing how you fit it and where you stand. It takes time to get your head around these things so give yourself space from it. As said, this doesn't change who you are as a person or how anyone in your life is going to treat you if you decide to tell them about it. You are you, the things that make you laugh, your sense of humour and your passions are all exactly the same now as they have been before. Your diagnosis is just something that can guide people in helping you the best way they can.
Recovery is a process, don't expect yourself to overcome difficulties right now just because you've been diagnosed. You're going to need time and space and your doctor will help you work through things in your own time.
Take gentle care of yourself and focus on you. You deserve your own support as well.
I hope you feel better soon and wish you all the best in working through this
Sarah
