laptop help?

I have a dell, the charger wasn't working, the laptop would run on "plugged in but not charging", assumed it was the charger which was a bit dodgy as my sister had a similar problem with it. bought a new charger & its still saying the same, only I have a blue flashing light in the shape of a battery with a lightning bolt through it. I'm running on 0% battery & the stupid thing won't charge.

the battery is fine, dad has tried it in another laptop, the laptop is also fine, dad has tried another laptop battery in it which works.

help?

I don't know, but my Dell did the same, and a friends has too. I'm guessing if it wasn't the power cord, and wasn't the battery, it's the bit that the battery plugs into.

I gave up and got a new laptop because my Dell had so much wrong with it, but it did work for about a year perfectly happy being plugged in all the time.

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do.
We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us.
We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

I have a dell and it's a nightmare. The battery is gone so I always have to have it plugged in, I don't mind that. But it is SO slow to get started, sometimes it takes 30-40 minutes just to get online. The other day I couldn't get online at all and today I swear, if I'd seen the words "not responding" once more, I was gonna throw the stupid thing out the window! I only use it when absolutely necessary, otherwise I use the family iPad. Sorry I haven't been any help but I hoe you get it sorted soon.

I had a dell before my current computer. The battery died, the speakers, the ethernet plugin and one of the USB ports stopped working, it lost a couple of keys, occasionally would get too hot and turn itself off... but other than that it worked great... and it was like 7 or 8 years old...
I don't like my new computer. It's falling apart already and I haven't even had it a year. I don't like that things aren't made to last anymore.

Nikki - It might help to back up your stuff and reinstall windows. That should make it useable at least.

Sorry, I don't have a solution to the charger issue :(

So, if it works with another battery, why not just swap the batteries around? Then the problem would be solved!

Never forget what you are for the rest of the world will not.
Wear it like armor and it can never be used to hurt you

Try this.
1. turn off laptop and close it when it's shutdown
2.unplug AC adapter
3.remove battery
4.close laptop
5.replace AC adapter and open laptop
6.Turn on and let it fully boot up
7.perform normal shutdown
8.when shutdown close laptop
9.unplug AC adapter
10.replace battery
11.replace AC adapter
12.open up laptop and start up as normal
Good luck
