Going back on medication
I want to go back on all of the medication I used to be on. I suffer from bipolar disorder type 2, and when moving cities and GPs they were funny about prescribing me my medication. My old GP never forwarded on any information, so I ended up off it. I had to see a specialist for another healthcare treatment, and in order to prove I was "of sound mind" and get through all the treatment I had to pretend my bipolar disorder wasn't an issue. As a result, I was off all my medication for a year and have been back on some of it for half a year.
My other treatment is complete, and my mental health is starting to suffer really badly. The past three days have made it glaringly obvious that I need to be back on my medication, or things could get worse. However, knowing my GP, I'm worried about speaking to them about it as they've been reluctant to prescribe me anything in the two years I've been with them; from inhalers to specialist gel I need. They only gave me my citalopram after I almost started crying in the office, so I don't know if it's going to be worth going back and trying.
I should be moving elsewhere for university in a couple of months and will have to re-register with a GP there, so I don't know if it'd be worth trying to hold out another little while in the hopes that these people will be better.
I just don't know what to do.

Hi Strider,
You should give yourself credit for recognizing you need to be on all your meds. That's a huge accomplishment.
I think if the last couple of days were rough, you shouldn't wait a couple months. I think you should try again with your GP-- or try another GP if you can. Also, it should never be too late to ask your old GP to send records to your new GP. So I would contact your old GP and ask them to send your records now.
Good luck. *hug*

Fight for another day

I agree with the above if you are struggling now you shouldn't wait a couple of months. It is better to do something about it now than to wait and for things to continue to deteriorate. Try again with your GP but if you are still finding that they are dismissing you could you see someone else? Best of luck xx

How far are you moving for uni? Is it possible to find a doctor in that area and make a trip to see them before you've actually moved there? That way you wouldn't have to worry about transferring from doctor to doctor.

Hi everyone,
I had trouble with my GP again and they wouldn't put me back on all my own medication. I'm not moving too far for uni and get the keys to the flat very soon, so I'm just going to have to wait it out and register at a new doctors asap- I also need inhalers and a special gel to take daily so I'll talk to them when I'm there.
Thank you for the continuing support and help <3

do you like my potato?

I hope you get on better with your new GP when you go to uni. But if you want meds for a mental health condition you'd be better off asking for a referral to a psychiatrist. GPs don't have much mental health training and most are reluctant to prescribe psych meds.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…
you once called your brain a hard drive, well say hello to the virus.
