Hello, it is natural to be nervous before a first therapy appointment I think. Hopefully if you click with the therapist it will become easier to open up and talk more, and if not you are within your rights to request a new therapist.

If you think a friend joining you for moral support would be a good idea then go ahead!

Good luck and well done for seeking the support!

Hi Kel, good luck with therapy tomorrow! What type of therapy is it, just out of curiosity? (I've done CBT and psychotherapy). The important thing is, they are there to help, so be as honest as you can, and as open as you feel able. Personally I've brought a friend to assessments but not therapy, as I guess there'd be no purpose to having a friend there as they can't actively participate in the therapy, although it can be helpful having a friend there for the first appointment as a support and also to discuss with the therapist any issues that need to be addressed further along the line - some of which you may be hesitant to mention, or may not have noticed.

I hope it goes well for you tomorrow :)

I think one of the best things to do when talking to a new therapist is just take things slowly.
They probably will not ask you any deep or heavy questions right away, so's to give you time to warm up to them.

And be honest with them.
It won't help you to lie about anything to them, or to not be truthful with answers.

Good luck!

Come on, skinny love,
Just last the year.

I went for my 2nd app 2day... went by myself.. came away feeling totally different about it, I m a very deep person find it realy hard to talk to pple I don't know or any new person infact! I didn't fill my mood paperwork out as it had jst been a week since I last went and couldn't face doing it last n8t,so I don't think she was very happy asked if we could fill it in now but I didn't want to(anyone else feel like this) had a bit of a talk about how I v been and that and she said I wasn't making it easy for her!! and that she feels that I don't wanna be in threapy because I m not saying much but I find it hard v hard to talk and she said that she was surprised I came back after last week... it was strange because she asked me if I wanted to stop cuming or try again in a few weeks.. so I said I d go in about 3 weeks so she booked me an app but I dunno I think she ran out of ideas for me... sorry rant over! last week I was so proud of myself because because it was such a big thing going and 2day its jst like I v wasted my time :-/ x

You have done so well going twice, especially if you find it super difficult to talk. You haven't wasted your time. Therapy isn't supposed to be easy and it'll come with its challenges which are ultimately for the better. I understand where she is coming from as CBT does require maximum input from yourself - you get out of it what you put in, which means putting as much effort into it (homework included) as possible. If it's tricky to fill it out every hour or two (I'm assuming this is what you were asked to do haha) could you try just doing it once every evening, so you have something to look back on in the next session? She hasn't run out of ideas for you, hun, it's just CBT is very much about therapists using your input to find solutions to manage how you're feeling etc.
