Depression or "just a passing phase"?

How do I know if I am becoming very depressed again, or if I am just "sad"?

When I was a teenager, I went through a severe depression which was left untreated for three years due to my mum preventing me from getting treatment.

Now I feel like I am getting depressed again, but my symptom presentation is different, mainly this time the suicidal thoughts are not as strong, and self-harm is not in the form of cutting, but in the form of aggressive acts like punching walls. I have been spending 90% of my life in my bedroom lately. I've stopped exercising (I used to be very fit). I overeat and have put on weight. I don't smile or laugh much. I don't feel joy much except when I feel, on occasion, manic (I have a history of very brief manic episodes). I don't want to socialise at all (normally I do desire a little bit of human contact, even if I am awful at socialising). My OCD is bad. My migraines are much worse. My selective mutism and general communication issues are much worse. Etc etc.

What is your opinion? I don't want to go to my psychiatrist and tell her that I think I'm getting depressed again if this is just a "passing phase".

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I think it's really impacting your life at the moment from what you've described, so I really think it is worth seeing someone and discussing your symptoms. Suicidal thoughts and isolation are dangerous so it's best you do speak out, you deserve some help through this and I hope things get better for you.

Thanks. I go through times in the day where I think "what is the point of carrying on with this life? What future do I have? None." and I have barely left my bedroom for 4 days.

I'm going to tell my psychiatrist next week as I have an appointment with her.

I'm on Sertraline for OCD, but 100mg as I have been experiencing partial seizures, so they can't increase the dose any further.
