My GP won't help me. What to do next!?

Hi I'm new.
I joined because I know I need serious help and I’ve been putting it off for years.
I told other people, almost wanting them to jump and finally take notice and realise I needed help. But no matter how much I explained, theynever did. I even went to my GP. She explained the doctors had no contacts andthat for help I’d need to find it myself.

I went into every building I could think of who could help me.
I searched through every community/charity mental health website that is meant to help me.
They all refer me to my GP. I’d already brought it up with a GP. Twice.
Even they didn’t care. Either that or no one takes mes eriously.

I am honestly stuck for what to do next.
I’ve tried self-help books, online stuff, various techniques... even just ‘trying to get over it’.
I’m a student and can’t afford to go private. I have exams starting next week and I’ve no time to be running around to re-ask people I know can’t help me.

I honestly have no idea what to do. I feel as though I’ve literally tried everything apart from storming into a hospital and pretending I’m literally psychotic so someone FINALLY refers me somewhere!

Hi pet,
Your GP doesn't sound very helpful at all!
Is there another doctor at your surgery you could make an appointment with?
If you wanted to, I personally think you have grounds to make a complaint.
Well done though, for reaching out and persevering. I know it can be a hard thing to do.
Would you like to talk about some of the problems you're experiencing?
Also, welcome to RYL!
Best of luck x

Erm to tell you all would be a long story haha.
From what I can tell from Clinical psychology lessons I have OCD, some form of GAD and co-morbid depression.
I've took those tests online and they've all come back "go and see your GP" but, well haha.

I finish uni for the summer soon so I might try back at home. It's just I know it takes like 3 weeks for an appointment and then you get put on another waiting list which could takes weeks... Even months!
It's a good idea though and I will try, thank you so much for you support!

Hadn't I wanted this?
I had actively participated in every moment of the creation of this life...
So why didn't I see myself in any of it?
I didn't wanna hurt anybody. I wanted to slip quietly out the back door and not stop running until I reached Greenland.

Always be wary of "self-diagnosis" and online tests, they're rarely accurate.
It sounds like you've got a good plan there but unfortunately yes, the waiting lists can be a right pain. And if you're suffering you could really do with getting yourself on the list.
Remember, if you ever do want to talk, we're all here to listen.
I hope you can get to see another Dr soon! Failing that, if you really had to go back to your original GP, could you take someone along with you to speak up for you?
Take care x

Hi there

Sorry you have been experiencing all of this, it sounds very difficult for you. You could really be using more support from your GP and I am so sorry that they have been unhelpful so far.

I think Bear has some really good ideas - is there anyone else at the surgery you can see?
What about your uni, do you have a doctor, nurse or Councillor on campus who you could talk to?

I'd be careful of self-diagnosing and doing these online tests, only a professional can diagnose you.

In the meantime, you could call helplines like the samaritians to help get things off your chest?

I'm already a Samaritan haha! Oh the irony right ?
Yeah that's a good idea, I might contact my union and see if they have something like that on campus; thank you both so much for your help!

Can you book another appointment with one of the other gps at your surgery but if you are in danger please go a+e

Have you ever confused a dream with life? Or stolen something when you have the cash? Have you ever been blue? Or thought your train moving while sitting still? Maybe I was just crazy. Maybe it was the 60's. Or maybe I was just a girl... interrupted.
I know what it's like to want to die. How it hurts to smile. How you try to fit in but you can't. How you hurt yourself on the outside to try to kill the thing on the inside. I tried groups, didn't work out just made my depression a lot worse.
