Not sure if I have mental problems or not... - please help!

Ok, so I met with somebody when I was in college and she said I had ADD. But, when I told my parents (this was maybe ten years ago or so), they flipped out and said this lady didn't know what she was talking about. I think ADD and ADHD was just coming out and wasn't as mainstream as it is today, plus I think my parents were still wanting to believe their kid (me) was perfect and all that.

Anyway, so I never got the meds and somehow made it through school, but a couple years ago, BAM, I really hit the wall. It's been an uphill battle ever since and I'm dealing with some serious issues now that I just can't seem to fix. So, I'm not sure what to do here, but I thought i'd give you a run down of my day and see if anybody recognizes behavior that might indicate a certain problem.

I usually sleep in till about 9 AM (not a morning person) and I can't really do much of anything until I've had a couple cups of coffee. Sometimes I check email, listen to music or just look out a window, but it's when I'm least productive.

After lunch, I usually get some work done (I'm an online student), but I've noticed that my stamina when it comes to work is at an all time low--I used to be a workaholic (12 hour days, etc.)! Now, I'm lucky to get an hour or two of solid work accomplished.

I usually eat an early dinner (around 4), maybe watch some TV or movies for a couple hours and then do some more work in the evening (reading, studying, etc.). Every once in awhile I either get really motivated or have this burst of energy and either stay up late or pull an all nighter....

Evenings are best for me, but I just always thought I was a "night person." Does any of this sound like ADD or some other kind of mental issue?

Thansk!

I am currently:

If you are having problems concentrating and it's affecting your study habits and life I would talk to a professional about it. It sounds like it has impacted your life quite a bit. A professional can tell you If it is something you should worry about. Take care hope you can find some answers soon.

Is there some meaning to this life? What purpose lies behind the strife?
Whence do we come, where are we bound? These cold questions echo and resound through each day, each lonely night.
We long to find the splendid light that will cast a revelatory beam
upon the meaning of the human dream.

If you ever need anything I am only a message away

Hi there,

We aren't able to diagnose you with anything here on RYL, but if you are genuinely concerned about your concentration and stamina to work, it might be worth talking to your GP about it and sharing your concerns. From there, they will be able to recommend something to help you, if they think it is necessary.

Hope that helps, take care xxx
