Stuck in a rut

The last few weeks, maybe even the last couple of months, have just slid by for me. I'm in a rut and no longer have the motivation to try and get myself out of it.
I set myself little to-do lists to try and keep myself busy, anything from doing some cleaning to looking for a job, or even doing a little writing just so I have done something constructive with my day. But more often than not I just end up doing nothing but watching TV and surfing the net all day.

Has anyone been in a similar rut, or are you in one right now? Any advice on how to get out of it? how to find that motivation to do something with your day and try and change your circumstances to make things better?

I am there too!No motivation to do anything to get of it even though I want to.x

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

If I recall correctly you've been out of work for quite some time? I think it would really benefit you if you had more activity that forced you to get out. Do you play sports or volunteer anywhere? Even if it was only a few times a week, I think it might help keep you motivated. You need to have some form of scheduled activity so that you can set up a routine around it.

I've been in a rut since going on mat leave with my 2nd 4yrs ago... I feel like my mind is melting most days.

I almost want to sign up for a correspondence course just to feel like I've done something useful.

Ha. sorry I'm not much help.

I've been there. It seems to turn into a bit of a cycle doesn't it.

I think making some kind of plan where you have to be out of the house works for me even if it's something small. Cos I have to get up, dressed and out and then I seem to have some more motivation for the rest of the day.

for example, I would make a meeting with a friend, a volunteering opportunity or even if I needed a docs appointment I'd make one early enough to stop me mooching about.

I feel ya. I have a decent enough job and all, but I can't afford to move out of my parents' house (and I'm 27) and generally feel stuck. I don't have the motivation to find a better job (read: career) as I feel like no one's hiring more entry level people and the economy here in the US is just working against me. I've applied in the past to many a job and no one calls back. At this point I feel like I'm destined for mediocrity.

I want to stay in love with my sorrow.
Oh, but God, I want to let it go.

When I care, it curls me up on the floor and I swear I can't do it anymore.

I'm stuck in a rut too. I try to get out of the flat once day for my sanity. Even if its just to go to the shop or my sisters for a cuppa. I find having a big clear out gives me something to do and you can make some money from selling stuff you no longer use. As has been mentioned before volunteering is a good thing to consider.
