Coping?
I don't deal with stress well.
I have bipolar disorder and tend to rapid cycle. My psychiatrist recently added zyprexa to my medication cocktail after my moodswings became too severe and too flippant. Like I'd be in bed for a week with the "there's not point in eating" kind of depression, then manic the next day. Now that I'm on zyprexa I'm just kind of numb. (I thankfully didn't get any side effects) But I still don't deal with stress well.
Medication helps, but what I do is most of the battle and I've become reliant on sweets, benzos, art, and sex for relief. My doctor felt I was becoming too reliant on xanax so that's gone; which is probably a good thing actually. I'm going to art school so I don't have time for personal projects anymore, although i still love what i do i don't have anytime for any real release. I'm in college, and I get so much homework I don't really have time to do anything, I think the last time I got off campus was two months ago.. there's just so much homework. sex has become the first thing i want when I'm stressed probably, and i think it slightly offended my boyfriend when he realized that. I recently set a goal not to eat between meals no matter how stressed out i am but it's so habitual to eat when I'm stressed it's ridiculously difficult now.
I've been seeing a therapist for the past 2 years consistently, that doesn't really help. Breathing/grounding techniques do nothing but make me feel stupid and crazy. Advice? Coping mechanisms that help?
