Hello,
I had a medical assessment on Saturday, I was asked about my symptoms, how they impact me and what I do on an average day.
If you need to take in notes on what to talk about do! I didn't and now wish I had, be honest with how everything effects you, they let you take someone if with you if you need/want that, the person who carries out your assessment doesn't make the decision so just tell them as much as you can so they can send it back to the decision makers.
Hope it goes well.

Hey,
I had mine in November. Being documents of your last psych appointments and some of the notes from your CPN and things. They like reading about it. My psych also wrote a letter saying the reason I was on certain medication and the dosages.
I find it quite hard speaking about my feelings and saying what goes on in my head so I took my boyfriend with me and he said alot of things that I missed out or wasn't able to answer properly.
They ask alot of questions about your safety, if your able to go out by yourself etc and whether you would be safe.

Mine was really understanding and said I should still be in hospital from what he read and stuff and was suprised due to my 'risk' level that I was in the community but he said he would write in the assessment report that I'm not fit to work but its not his decision it's someone higher who reads everything and then make a judgement. They put me in the work related activity instead of the support group even though the assessor said and thought I would be in the support group. So it's a very confusing what you will get x

If you have no luck with your cpn since you said they sometimes are dismissive go and see your GP and ask for copies of letters from your psychiatrist and if you have any diagnosis in writing take those along with you.
If you get really unsure you can always ring the DWP benefit help line and they can advise "what needs declaring"
You should have a booklet come with your letters from the DWP explaining what to expect at a medical health check. If you haven't got this, or do not get it soon, again ring the DWP and they will send you one out.
Hope that helped.

I was literally there less than five minutes and the person said I was obviously not well enough and I would be put in the support group. And I was. My friend in Coventry had the same. Just go in and be honest. Mine is due soon as well and even though I know it was ok last time, I'm still scared. I don't think you're alone with being apprehensive.

I didn't have a face to face medical I was placed straight into the support group from the documentation I sent in and the letter they had from my psych.
Have a look on benefits and work website as they have lots of info for dealing with the medicals, having your cpn or support worker with you will help the assessor to understand your needs.
Good luck. x
