Fate, a topic for thought,

So there is one thing i fail to understand, and that is fate.
its difficult to believe and not believe in fate. there is just no way to know for certain if fate exists.
i mean if you look at everything there seems to be and not to be a pattern. its just like if one aspect was different in life, everything would change in that moment.
just like the theory of time travel, if you change one thing in the past, everything in the present and future would change, but then again, nothing could be specific, because we are all free to choose what does and does not occur.
so take for example, if what u ate this morning was not what you ate. what would change?
for instance, if you had an apple this morning, but then again you didn't, instead you ate cereal. that apple could potentially rote and die and per-say later you were to bite into that apple, get disgusted and never eat apples again. then the chemical composition in your body might change and you could then become perceptible to cancer (i know that's a bit of a leap, but it makes sense right?)
its just so hard to guess, or so hard to find out, because if fate existed it wouldn't want us to find out, and if fate didn't exist then there is nothing to find. what do you think?

The topic of 'fate' always interests me. I think there are many ways in which you can approach it. There's the obvious philosophy of questioning the whats the hows the whens and the wheres. Then there's the psychological level of, well what does this mean for me? I think a lot of people can prescribe fate to a situation, by assuming that because something has been serendipitous (a pleasant coincidence) for them in particular, it must mean it was meant to happen. But then you could also spin it on it's head, and argue that you had only attributed that meaning to that particular situation in order to make it an a) bearable situation or b) something which has the potential to be profound.

I'm not really sure what kind of a tangent I'm going off on here. I was discussing pre-determinism with someone one time, and we were talking about the science behind it and how physically, the chemical build up of a persons body is on a cycle and completely replaces itself every (what I think to be) 7 years. (?) So, even if something really profound happens to you say, 10 years down the line, you could then look at it biologically, and begin to question whether it really was meant to happen in a fateful sense, because biologically speaking you are a completely different person altogether. Would fate then work in the same way? What would the implications be of that?

I think I am a believer of fate in someways, but like you, I'm completely accepting of the fact that I'll never be able to empirically prove this. Perhaps it is just me adding a whole bunch of meaning to my life, whether that be religiously, spiritually or merely psychologically. Nonetheless, it's very interesting, and I'll stop rambling now!

Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world awaits in darkness for the light that is you.

In regards to time travel, when considering such ideas I start to believe in the concept of parallel timelines. If time travel were EVER possible (at any point in the future) the entire timeline would be affected by it.

It's interesting how people tend to reject fate when it's in regards to free will. But when it comes to love, people jump on the "it was fate that brought us together" train. And you almost have to believe in fate at those times. The odds that you would meet the woman you want to spend your life with on any given day are stacked so far against you when you think about the number of choices we make daily to bring us to where we presently are.

I distinguish between fate and destiny. Fate is more random and destiny is not. A person subject to fate can be lucky or unlucky (ill-fated). Lots of good people get unlucky. Lots of bad people get lucky.

Destiny on the other hand transcends odds, events, luck etc. An example comes from a video about the 2004 Tsunami I was watching on YouTube. A man was in Thailand on a scuba vacation with his kids. His son suddenly had 7 dreams about something bad that was going to happen. The father in documentary said his son was in tears.

That kind of intuition, insight, revelation etc exceeds mere luck and the kid had access to something others didn't. He wasn't merely being "lucky". I find the people with that kind of destiny are generally more sincere and somewhat "searching" souls. I do think that kind of revelation is something that comes from a higher source. Things that specific and timely just dont happen randomly out of thin air

I think a lot of people like to think there's destiny or fate - it helps you make sense of what is otherwise a random series of incidences, and nobody really likes being that ill-at-ease.

I also think that people enjoy spotting patterns, even if those patterns don't actually exist - if you think of somebody, and that person then phones you, you like to think there's some reason behind it. What it probably means is either that you guys phone each other on some sort of basis - so you feel like it's been a while since you've caught up, in which case it's not impossible that they felt that too, or what often happens, where you notice and remember the times it happens right, but forget those times where you think of somebody and have no contact from them at all because why would that stick in your brain?

People can make themselves believe a lot without realising.

I'd like to think there's some magic in the world, but I also quite enjoy the idea that everything is pretty much random. There's a lot of free-willed fun in that too.
