Paying for care

I hope this makes sense; it very well may not; so please bear with me.

I've had an assessment from social services for physical and mental needs. They are suggesting I need a carer. They have informed me that I must use my DLA care and my ESA premiums to pay towards the cost.

I'm not stupid, well not entirely anyway , I know DLA care is for care but there is a problem. My DLA care is used to pay for my over the counter medication and other things I need due to being physically disabled, which I have been told I must use my DLA to pay for as I cannot get them from the NHS even though these things are necessary for my conditions to help stop deterioation (the NHS simply will not fund them). I'm also supposed to use my DLA care for other disbility expenses as well such as problems getting accommodation that is within benefit levels where I live (social housing is almost impossible due to lack of housing and my physical/mental needs) - the discretionary payment only pays part of the extra I must above housing benefit and is stopping anyway next month. A further problem is that the 'care' will actually deterioate my conditions anyway, so combined with not being able to have these other things, I'm really really scared about what is going to happen to me. I don't have any family to take me in/support me and my bank can't help.

I'm wondering if anyone has been in a similar position here? I'm not putting in the details of what I spend my DLA care on as it's very specific.

EDIT: I use my ESA for my non disability costs like electric and water and food. I cannot possibly stretch it to cover a loss of what I have been told will be in the region of £90 a week.

Okay I am assuming you are on contribution based ESA as if you are on income based ESA your prescriptions will be free.

If you are on contributions based ESA I am assuming you have savings or a partner who works? If you don't then you should contemplate moving over to income based esa as that would give you your prescriptions for free which would be a bit of help at least

You misunderstood. I'm on income based ESA so don't pay for prescriptions. The things I am paying for are not available on prescription and must be paid for privately from DLA. I live alone and have no-one to help me meet the costs.

It's okay, I'm not exactly with it at the moment!

Yeah I have spoken to both but the only response I get is 'use your DLA'.

It's deadlocked at the moment, as I'm currently struggling to get my ESA paid due to cmht telling my MP I am physically fit and healthy (I'm not and the person who wrote to the MP has never met me - it was following a complaint about discrimination as a physically disabled patient when I was inpatient last year).

Tis all a mess

But I appreciate you reading!

If you've been on a section 3 you don't need to pay for staff.
