Hair Colour: is this possible?
Hi all!
My hair (a short bob) is currently dyed black and underneath no doubt many years of red, purple, etc.
So now I'm thinking of going light, light blonde.
Is it possible to go to the hairdressers, have it stripped and go a light blonde? I only ask as I once spoke to a hairdresser who said there was too much red tone in there for it to work... but surely the stripping would take that out..
Any advice or experiences welcome, thanks
:)

It is possible but to have it done professionally is gonna cost a pretty penny. In fact quite a few pretty pennies. You'll also have to put up with whatever colour it goes for a couple of weeks to let your hair rest before they bleach it. Most hairdressers won't want to do it, but if you're insistant they will.
Don't go for the cheap option and decide to diy in your bathroom. I done that and it ended with ruined hair having to be all cut off and my hairdresser giving me a stern talking to.

Not pointless, that is helpful! :)
I've had long blonde hair before but will need to consider if it will be okay in my bob.
Thanks Allypants xx
Thanks Tamz (hope that is correct!). I would be willing to pay to get it done properly but you've bought up some really good points, thanks x

I usually have my hair dyed red-dark brown and I have a naturally light brown colour. I used a dye stripping kit once and it turned my hair bright yellow. Not blonde lol, this was yellow. It was because hair dyes of any colour contain peroxide and they had lightened my natural colour over the years until it was a frightening brassy yellow colour. So that's what my hair looked like when it was stripped... :/ Could this have been the sort of thing she's meant?
I have pictures I could show you, the hairdressers had a good laugh at me the next day when I crawled in begging for help and I got told off for using dodgy hair kits at home without doing my research!

It is possible that they will do it in steps as to not damage your hair. It is indeed a big transition and you may have to sign a piece of paper saying you OK'd it (not kidding) because it could damage your hair. A good hair dresser will lighten it gradually (maybe in two or three visits over a few months, less if your hair is healthy, more if it's unhealthy or fine) and apply protein or keratin rich treatments to replace what they're stripping out of the hair.
Basically, it can be done. But it could take a little while!

i had my hair dyed from black to blonde. it was red before black.
It took 4 1/2 hours and cost £127 to get from black to blonde. and that was cheap, i got quotes from other places and they were going to charge £200+ if they did it at all!

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
Who else is fine?!?!?

I agree in that it's possible but hair dressers might not want to do it, it's not impossible to find those who will do it though.
I guess it depends on how much you want it, if you really want blonde hair enough then looking for someone to do it and paying whatever the amount is for it, will be worth it because it's what you really want.

Thank you all so much for your inputs :)
I've decided I'm going to save my money (and hair) and give it a miss at the moment.

I don't know about fashion trends in Australia, but dip-dying is all in in the UK at the moment so perhaps you could grow it out and then when you just have black tips get the tips cut off? My friends growing out her black at the moment (naturally a light ginger) and it looks alright - she just had to put up with scuzzy roots for a month or two but got some semi-permanant brown which has faded so that the contrast wasn't so bad.
Lovely whatsherface from the OC displaying some lovely dip dyed hair (although yours would end up the opposite of this)
