What exactly is dissociating?

In a meeting with my psychologist, she told me that i have been "dissociating" and this is also mentioned in some of my medical notes etc... but im not exactly sure what is meant by it

Do not adjust your mind, there is a fault in reality

There's lots of different types of dissociation, all really relating to a detachment to reality. Do you know which type your psychologist is suggesting you have? Like, has she mentioned things such as depersonalisation and derealisation?

Have you ever considered the possibility that you dissociate, or was her bringing it up the first time you've thought about it?

Sorry for not answering your question straight away; I'm interested to know what your thoughts are first!

As Jenna said, dissocation is a HUGE spectrum. I think most people are on it - for example habitual things can be done without attention being paid, but a few have extreme symptoms (losing time/carrying out actions without insight).

I can describe my symptoms to you, but I'm not sure if that would be helpful for you. What is it you are looking for? Someone to explain dissociation, or someone to talk to about the issues that stem from it that you experience?

Imperfection is underrated.

it's like, detaching from yourself, your actions and your surroundings. For me it's like drifting off, and that can range from a general feeling of haziness and detachment to full blown episode of amnesia.

Mind explain it quite well here: http://www.mind.org.uk/mental_health...tive_disorders

This is a good description and the link is also very good; I think that's the page i was given a print out of and found it very useful (I care for my partner who has a severe dissociative disorder).

angeldevil, please take the number of calories out of your post; you know that's not OK to write.
