Tonight my 13 year old cousin told me she was suicidal last year. She says she's talked to her mother about it and I believe her but I feel heartbroken for her. I knew she was having problems last year because every facebook status was something too positive if you know what I mean. I just didn't want to believe it was that bad. She knows about my cutting and my depression which is why she opened up to me tonight. I feel so powerless, I went to college for psychology yet I can't think of good thing to say to her. I was able to have a good conversation with her but I'm just so heartbroken that she has to go through this and part of it is genetics because I have a family history of depression and I just found out other family members have been suicidal. Hearing it from her just killed me though, maybe because she's at the age I was when I starting cutting and that worries me. She actually talks to her mom about serious stuff so it helps ease my worry a bit. I just wish she didn't have to experience this.
