Any kind of sports class will have social aspects.
Zumba, Pilates, yoga, martial arts, aqua aerobics, roller disco!
I suspect if its something to do whilst studying you will want something that you can just do an hour or two a week in the evening or at weekends.
If you have a health club or even a holiday park near you it is worth seeing what they offer. My nan lives near to a caravan/holiday village and uses their gym and pool for a yearly membership despite not staying there.
Now, I know what you might be thinking. But Universities and such can run class as part of a Society. They are strictly for sport purposes and anything deemed anything but is not allowed. I joined one during my time at University and we were told to only wear gym clothes (tracksuit bottoms/t-shirts) and if anyone was doing the class for anything other than sport they were asked to leave. It was fun and I met a lovely bunch of ladies there (and even a few guys!).

I fence...it helps me calm down. It's not so social, but it's sporty and very very fun!
Not social? I was dating three guys at once from the same fencing club! (Bad, I know.) And when you stab someone in the balls/in the boob it gives you something to laugh about.
Aimee, does your university offer any sports or clubs that interest you? Most of them are designed to be mainly social. Fencing is good, but can be incredibly expensive (I'm just about to spend £700 on kit) if your club doesn't provide, and it's quite intense physically. Dance of whatever type is good as well. Things like badminton/squash clubs, or tennis, or hockey, or anything that requires two or more people is inherently social.
Being from Straya some kind of activity with sharks would seem easy to do. All you need is a snorkel and some fins. Otherwise I would say hiking is good and there are usually hiking groups to do it with (at least there are in my area - wish we had more sharks though)
Trampolining? You don't have to be awesome at it, unlike dancing and gymnastics you don't need to be under 7 to start it. It burns calories, you can stand and chat to others when it isn't you go (as long as your prepared to catch) and your not on there for ages so the getting out of breath thing doesn't matter so much.
Classes like Zumba or kickboxing/self defence sound cool..infant so does pole dancing.
Life can be beautiful if you let it.
Step back, breathe and take it in
I don't know about your University, but mine runs a program called Trysport, where they offer you to try a sport for £1 for up to five sessions. This means you can do anything that the program offers weekly for a pound. I tried Zumba and it was great fun meeting lots of others, especially as we all made complete fools of ourselves!
Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world. All things can be mended. Not with time, as they say, but with intention. So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally. The broken world awaits in darkness for the light that is you.
