A Question.

Why don't parents etc wear protective gloves while changing their babies' nappies? Why on earth do they do it with bare hands?!

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

This is a good question.

I'm not entirely sure.

I suppose wearing gloves would make it more difficult to change a nappy, and some gloves have powders etc on them which may irritate babies delicate skin.

I always thought changing a nappy would bother me, but at the end of the day, it needs doing, and its not like adult poo because they don't eat all the rubbish that adults do!

I would hope that parents wash their hands afterwards though!

I'm sure they do wash their hands.

Perhaps it would be irritating to the baby's skin.

Personally my OCD prevents me even coming into any contact with a baby, even if the baby is clothed.

I suppose you'd be going through a lot of gloves which would lead to a lot of wastage, maybe they don't get a lot of poo on their hands anyway? Cause they are using wipes and such.

I would say babies are cleaner than adults. Younger babies especially, as they aren't crawling around on the floor etc

And the poo doesn't really get on your hands a lot.

Hmm. Seems gross to me to not use gloves still.

It's only the same as picking up dog poo using a bag, or mucking out a stable (horse poo fights anyone?...just me? Ok).

Most of the poo stays on the nappy, or wiped using a baby wipe so you don't really touch it.

If you do a poo you don't wear gloves to wipe your bum.

most babies only eat formula/breast milk so thats all thats coming out.

Plus, when its your own baby you dont really care what you get covered in.. (My baby once threw up all over my face and ive been peed on).

When youre changing a nappy, you mostly dont get any poo or anything on you because after a week or so youre a pro.

This.
Because you don't get it on you anyway, so washing your hands afterwards is sufficient.
It's when they pee/get morning glory whilst you're changing a nappy that you've got to worry.

Ride it out.

I was going to say this too. I suppose parents know that getting various bodily waste on them sort of comes with the job, so it's not a big deal, you can always wash hands/face/clothes etc.

Do you wear protective gloves to wipe your arse?

Baby poo is pretty much digested breastmilk or formula. If, on occasion, you did get any on your hands you just wash it off, it's not going to kill you.

I don't wear protective gloves when i clean out my rats or pick up their poo, neither do i wear them when i have to do gross things like cleaning rat abscesses, i just make sure i wash my hands properly,

i think the thing is when its your own child or pet you do things you wouldn't dream of doing for other peoples!

Oh the worst is when my dog does a really squidgy poo and I get a bit on my fingers D: then for the rest of the walk I'm desperate to wash my hands!

I still love my dog though <3

I expect when I have children I won't care if I get a bit of poo or sick on me.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

My mums dog once pooed in my shoe. He managed to get it right in the toe bit, you couldn't even see it.
I still don't know how he did it.
