Can Zopiclone destroy a normal sleep cycle

I've been prescribed zopiclone while in hospital because I havent been sleeping too great, maybe three hours a night and still awaking up feeling refreshed. I'm wondering can taking zopiclone mess up you sleep pattern making it more difficult to fall alseep without medication?

As far as I was concerned [I took zopiclone both at 3.75 and 7.5mg strengths] it didn't make it harder to sleep without it unless I used it every night and became used to using the sleepiness it caused to help me drift off, rather than using non-medication wind down techniques.

I think because you are in hospital, you need to discuss your concerns about medication with the person who prescribed this, or one of the nurses who is dispensing it to you.

Maybe ask them for other help alongside the medication to learn some good sleep hygiene skills.

I think if you use zopiclone only in the short term it can promote a healthy sleep pattern because it teaches your body to go to sleep at a certain time and wake at a certain time.

I guess over a prolonged period of time it would mess things around a bit but certainly not straight away.

As MissA suggested, perhaps worthwhile to discuss with ward staff?

Good luck x
