Hi all,


Please, please, please anybody suggest me what I have to do.

My brother is marijuana addict.

He has been doing this for nearly 16 years. We came to know about this about 6 years back.

We have been consulted many physicians and psychiatrists.

He is doing good when taking medicines. But after 4 or 5 months, he is again doing same thing.


Now, he is mentally disturbed more and seems restless.

We want to treat him as inpatient. I require any good place who is doing de-addiction and treatment for marijuana.

Please kindly suggest anyone where we can get treatment for this?


Moreover, we are middle class family, we could not afford more.

We are in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

It's really great that you want to get your brother help (:

Doctors and psychiatrist would most likely know the best place for him to get help, I would advise getting in contact with them.

Sorry to hear about your concerns for your brother. Sadly, I don't think anyone here will be able to recommend a specific treatment centre. However, it might be worth consulting with another psychiatrist and seeing what they advise. There might also be medication he hasn't tried before.

As I am sure you know, marijuana can worsen mental health problems which can make recovery from addiction very difficult. It is likely that therapy and detox would be necessary, in addition to medications. Inpatient treatment can be useful for this, but your brother will also need to be willing to try and recover.

We have tried many psychiatrist here in chennai (nearly 10), we could not find any proper solutions.

We have treated him as inpatient in psychiatrist hospital for nearly 20 to 25 days.

After that he seems to be well for 3 or 4 months, but he again he uses that.

So we want him to change the place. We could like to move him around anywhere in kerala and treat him there well for three or four months.

Have you spoken to him about why he keeps going back to it?

I don't know of any places in India, and as most of the members here are based in UK/America/Canada/Australia there might not be many who are able to help advise you.

That said, it's worth asking your doctors about anywhere longer-term that are able to help him.
