DRUGS innit!

I am on Venlafaxine and Quetiapine and have been for a while at varying doses. I am fed up of constantly being tired so the doctor suggested that I cut down my quetiapine to 25mg from 50mg to see if I am less dopey.

However since I did this I am getting really bad night sweats and struggling to get to sleep due to being anxious. This is rather awkward because I want to get off the venlafaxine but the doctor didn't seem to want to listen to that. I just hate the side effects of it and feel like its not a beneficial med to be on. The doctor seems to think because I seem better than when he saw me over the summer, the meds must be working which maybe to some extent they are but I am fed up of being so tired and I am on 225mg of venlafaxine which is quite a lot and I don't think it helps me to function.

I am meant to be at uni but hardly ever make it as either I am exhausted and oversleep, I feel anxious so just stay in bed or my IBS starts trolling.

I don't really know what I want from this thread, maybe any ideas or whatever?

Hard as it is, try and force yourself into a consistent sleep cycle. Like, I know you're tired on ALL of the days and it's going to be hard to force yourself to get up and do stuff when you'd rather stay in bed but it's the best way (ironically) to reduce your sleepiness.

Take your pills at the same time every day. Set a bed time and a getting up time and stick to it. If you're not sleeping much at night, allow yourself a nap between certain hours. If you are, then power through and try not to nap. It will be hard for the first few weeks but once your body is more used to it it will get better.

Not sure if this is at all helpful - it all comes from a 'how to deal with fatigue/insomnia' booklet I got given moons ago when I was doing either none, or all of the sleeping!

Also, I can't remember if you drink caffeine at all - but limit it to the first half of the day if you can :) As this will help you to get a more restful nights sleep.

If you find yourself very anxious at night then maybe try and write down the things that are going though your mind and put them all in a book to try and let yourself think of them for a short time, then put them aside for dealing with in the morning. Try to admit that there is nothing you can do about them right now, but they are written down so you don't have to worry about forgetting them, and can deal with them later.

Once they're written out, lay down and take a few moments to be mindful of your breathing. Take a few deep breaths and relax each part of you body. Close your eyes and breathe in and out slowly.

Thank you for your reply lovely! I need to get into a routine but legit struggle to do it. I have honestly never had a sensible sleep routine that I can remember! The trouble is I don't see the benefits fast enough and I am like I STILL FEEL TIRED so go back to sleeping all the days. Its most awkward.

Christmas week will probably help as I will be at mothers and therefore not allowed to sleep all day (she will irritate me into submission by hoovering) :p

I might try and make myself a routine written down because if I can see something, it seems more legit and I am more like to stick to it. I have done this before and it lasted longer than me just thinking it if that makes sense.

Man I waffled much more than I meant to but thanks Jodie, for everything! You are awesome!

Perhaps being at your mother's will help you get into a routine as you won't have a choice but to endure feeling really exhausted throughout the day. It will be really horrible but after a week, your body might start to feel more energised. Then, when you're in more of a routine (obviously it won't be 'cured' in a week...), it'll be easier to take your tablets at definite times etc..
