pot is legal.

Where I'm at. In like 5 months if you're over 21 can walk into a store front, get weed at wholesale prices. Basically without buying in bulk, you can get 5 grams of good pot for 20 dollars or so. Cookies, whatever. And grow. Should go into effect before summer. O

First 40 million taxed dollars earned from it every year goto education. After that its a bit grey.. also pot use is going down where its been legal for med use. We will see where this goes. For legalisation.

I'm happy this passed. War on drugs is a joke, all it is , is people trying to control others and tell them how to think.

Only issue on legalising here, is half the government is, or has some kinda interest/ownership of breweries so they totally oppose it. They rather have drunks I guess.

I would be so happy if alcohol got traded in for weed. Although shops nationwide would run out of crisps. . .

im genuinely interested to see how this goes for those states. I would love it if it went well and they decided to roll it out more and more.

Its pretty ineresting. Some people are upset but voters voted. 54 to 46, something like that. I don't see it as being a big deal. It would give cops more time to look for actual criminals like rapists. Just saying.

Pot is gateway drug par excellence. It has more cancer causing tar than tobacco. Its conducive to psychotic illnesses. Its awful for asthma, emphysema, COPD etc. The "medical" thing is as phony as medical beer would be. There is nothing good about being a pot smoker - or any kind of smoker. People play with this stuff but at some point people find themselves and drop it.

Vaporizers pretty much eliminate any tar. The federal government I believe has 1 valid marijuana perscription for someone I believe with emphesema. I know it helps with pain. There is pot soda, cookies, cakes brownies. You don't need to smoke it.

Medical beer? You can find a study on anything. You can get a daily supply of magnesium I believe and an assorted other vitamins and mineral from alcohol. Pots as much a gateway drug is as caffiene, no?

I believe everybody should read Professor Nutt's brilliant (and peer reviewed) work on this, particularly before they go into a position of authority where they make decisions about legalisation.

Will be v interesting to hear outcomes from the US.

Good link showing how tobacco smoking was once promoted using doctors in ads

Science changes its view based on what is perceived. Unless you're saying that you don't believe in science full-stop, you have to assume that when things have been thoroughly researched and peer reviewed there's a smidgen of truth in them.

Thing with the connection with smoking and cancer is that the implications were not researched, and when they were, these sorts of adverts were withdrawn.

Unless I've missed your point entirely.

It shouldn't - it should be based on cold facts. Old adverts could used docotrs because the facts were unknown and the truth could be fudged. The same is true of weed now. Since it hadn't been studied long term people decided to call it more than safe - its medicinal! Sorry but nobody can tell me that inhaling hot smoke and holding it in the lungs is medicinal. I also dont think anything that produces an artificial high is good. If people are solid in their own roots getting wonked out on weed just has no appeal. I did my weed back in uni days and lost interest in it once away from the parties. At the time I was also hostile to reality. Once i wasn't hostile to reality I lost my desire to escape it using drugs. Drugs open the mind to imaginery thinking while keeping in tune keeps insight sharp. Give me a clear mind and good character any day because such things produce insight. Lots of people who I knew who stayed with weed after uni are burnt.

(I know some highly qualified, well educated and emotionally intelligent people, well into their 50s, who enjoy the odd spliff on the weekend, whilst still maintaining their life, their career and their sanity. I also know some people who fell into the drugs trap and are now wasters. There will always be cases on both sides of the spectrum when you bring up personal examples, and it doesn't really help very much. Often the people who fall into heavy cycles of drug abuse have already got some underlying unsatisfaction which leads them to that abuse; it's not necessarily a causational relationship all of the time. Of course, it very much is in some situations, but you have to accept that there are some grey areas and it's simply not as easy as "I know people who have burnt out now. These people smoked drugs. Therefore smoking drugs is bad".)

Wow. The extra tax it generates would be great, but what are the negatives? Can you overdose on weed?

Genuine question. :)

If you have too much you get what is known round here as a whitey. Feel dizzy, off balance, can't stand up and inevitably puke a lot.

Getting incredibly paranoid and assaulting someone is another negative.
Bit it's probably been mentioned that it affects people in different ways

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

i whitey'd once, had to be carried to my bed. its like when youre out drinking and you know that one more drink will push you over the edge, but you drink it anyway.

Great thing is, it only lasts a while and you dont get a hangover or anything.
