I might be put on sodium valproate soon. So wondering what were peoples experiances of it?

The Electronic Medicines Compendium ( http://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/ ) do a good SPC (Summary of Product Characteristics) on sodium valproate. Don't look at the PILs (Patient Information Leaflets) because they're far too basic.

I have never taken it, but if you want I can do some research from my Psychopharmacology textboooks for you and PM you the details.

I have been in it for over 3 years. It has done wonders for me. Mainly is balances out my mood to be neither high or low so I can function and focus in what I need to be doing t that time. Feel free to pm me. Also remember everyone has different experiences as we are all different :)

Am I right in assuming you need a blood test before going on this drug?

I haven't. And also haven't had any blood work for it regularly. Depends in psych I guess.

I'm on it, never had blood tests. I'm still trying to find the right dose with my psychiatrist, but not had any side effects.
