Reviews Requested- Contains upsetting material - Fear (Poem)
I don't find this upsetting, but I realise that people are sensitive to a range of different subjects, so I thought i'd put the label on just in case.
Sitting alone
Fear, encompassing all rational thoughts
Does it eclipse life itself?
Fear, the result of evil,
Malicious acts, done to wrong others.
Fear, is it a physical pain?
Does fear itself cause suffering?
Fear, a child scared of monsters under the bed.
Or something more sinister? An adults nightmare,
born into reality,
gone are the days of safety,
holidays and tales of magical adventure,
replaced by hellish repetition,
office tower blocks on the horizon,
the daily struggle of work and rent.
Nightmares no longer of monsters,
and evil cartoon characters,
but replaced by haunted memories,
a painful past, revisited in sleep,
unwelcome reminders of a broken life,
forever resurfacing, taunting,
and a young man, wearing a mask,
a broken smile, forever hidden,
praying that the mask will pass,
in a society in which he is forgotten.
