I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, it's a decent phone. The screen is quite big, it is slim and can just about fit in my pocket. The specs for the phone are here. Sometimes it can get quite hot and sometimes the screen spazes out, but it doesnt happen often. It is good. Plus it runs android.

I'm happy with my HTC Desire S, its not the best, but it's pretty much all I need. Also have an old (handme down as its previous owner upgraded) Asus Transformer thats pretty cool, being able to use it as a netbook is useful for typing, but then can separate the screen and its a normal tablet.
The best would be the latest ones, Samsung Galaxy Note 10, or Asus transformer prime maybe for tablets, and the S3 for a phone, or maybe whatever google are calling theirs now, or of course iPhone/iPad
I've still not worked out why I need a tablet/netbook when I have a laptop, but the batter life and convenience of it means my laptop sits in its case most the time, and if I don't have access to my asus, my phone does all my internet needs too.
The best advice is go into a shop fiddle with the display models, find one that works for you and does what you want it to, then buy it assuming its within your budget.
I have an Iphone 4s and find it fantastic for my needs. I am not a super techy person so like the simplicity of it.

Galaxy s2! I used to have an iphone but find the galaxy much more useful and you don't have to pay for as many things like music/intoned/apps. Plus the camera is really good as is the screen!
Got a samsung phone, and motorola tablet, both are on android. Also got an iPad, in my opinion android is much better (Samsung/motorola etc). Found it alot easier to use, also more freedom if you're a tech person, and faster too.

The Asus Transformer range was what I was looking at purely for its ability to be both a laptop and tablet. I think I would find touchscreen keyboards a little difficult. I'm the same with feeling I need a laptop, tablet and phone! I need to access the web at EVERY moment! It's of vital importance! The Galaxy S3 was also top of my list for phones or maybe an iphone 4 if I was getting an iPad.

I have a HTC Desire S. I like it, had it nearly two years, not let me down, the battery life is decent, does what I want it to do. I recommend HTC phones tbh.
As for tablets, I just got the Nexus 7 which is a 7 inch tablet, perfect for carrying round, unlike the 10.1" tablets which are far bulkier and more difficult to stowaway in smaller bags. You get £15 for Google Play free, plus a Transformers film (God knows why) and even thought it doesn't support things like BBC iPlayer, with a quick Google search that's easy to get around. I have notebook apps for Uni (if you go to Uni, it's a handy little gadget), Lecture Recorder, Dropbox (Which you can sync to your laptop and your phone and save files which will automatically go to all your gadgets with Dropbox installed), flashcards for revision, eeeeetc.
Plus it was only £200 for the 16gb version, which is pretty damn cheap considering how good it is.
You didn't specify what you'd be using the tablet for?
Games and films are pretty good on Nexus 7 in my experience. Although you should shop around and look at reviews/comparisons which can tell you what's best for your needs. :)

When buying an andoid device pay attention to how the manufacturer has upgraded previous devices. I have a Motorola Atrix that is stuck with Gingerbread because Motorola can't be assed to provide upgrades for the phone.
If you want an iPhone got for a 4 or a 4s. The 5 is awful with battery life. It doesn't last as long at all!
Wow really?! I thought the battery life was supposed to be improved! I was going to be getting an iPhone 5 soon so this worries me...
I've had an iPhone 4 for two years now, it's my first smartphone and I've been extremely happy with it. I rarely even use a computer now, other than writing long documents and editing photos I can do everything I want to on my phone and it's very convenient. I would definitely recommend an iPhone, it's very simple to use while also catering to different needs. I have absolutely loved having my email so easily accessible, as well as being able to Google something at the touch of a button and being able to record notes so easily, just things like that. I'm not much into apps however there's that side of things too, though even with no apps the iPhone has everything you could really need. I have considered going with a different smartphone for my next one as the iPhones are the most expensive, however I've decided to stick with having an iPhone as the one feature it has that none of the other smartphones have is the iPod feature, where I can sync it to iTunes and use it as an iPod (I've had an iPod for four years which I used to use everyday and over the time I've had my iPhone my use of my iPod has slowly dwindled. The only time I use it now is when I know I won't be able to charge my iPhone easily and want to conserve as much battery as possible). I will say though, be aware things may go wrong with the iPhone after about the eighteen month mark, the 'home' button on my iPhone is now EXTREMELY unresponsive and when I'm on Safari it occasionally just exits to the home page for no reason, as well as other things like having it freeze, reception drop etc which I could only remedy by turning the phone off and on. Not really a big deal and it doesn't stop me from my loving my iPhone however when I first got my phone I wouldn't have imagined it would ever do these things and it's not something you really hear of that much, and I think people often just assume Apple products never freeze or stop working like say, Windows products do (or at least that's what I assumed) and that's not the case.
If you can, I would recommend getting your smartphone on a plan with the phone included as part of the monthly fee as with smartphones constantly changing (and possibly declining over time like mine has) I don't think it's really worthwhile to shell out $800 on a phone you'll probably only have for a few years. My plan is over 24 months and all up only around $1500, which includes heavy phone calls, texting & internet use as well as the iPhone itself and after my plan finishes I get to keep my iPhone and can also have it jailbroken for free by my phone company.
Tbh getting a contract phone is not worth it as you end up paying something like £30 a month for two years, it always works out cheaper to buy the phone itself and get a monthly sim only contract. Especially with an i phone!
