talking to my doctor about depression?

So I've been having a pretty rough time lately and it's just been getting worse. Most days it takes everything I have to pull myself out of bed and there are still days where I can't get up. I've been putting on a pretty good show, only some days do people realize theres something wrong. I confided in my girlfriend. I told her that everyday I think about killing myself. I think about how I would do it, what I would use. I've told her that I was contemplating buying a gun. One morning I was with her and I just told her that I couldn't do it anymore. That I couldn't get out of bed and I just wanted to die. I started crying. She asked me to talk to someone about this. She said it might be best if I tell my doctor. I'm thinking she's right. But I'm not sure how to go about doing that. What do I say when I make the appointment? That I just feel like **** all the time or that I think I might be depressed? And what do I say to my doctor once I'm at the appointment? I don't think this is just all in my head. I feel like I should just suck it up, but I can't. Just please, I don't know whats wrong with me, or even if I'm actually depressed. Please help.

It sounds like you really need some support. Please go see your doctor. Say what you have said here. They will ask questions, which helps if you struggle to explain whats going on. I'm so sorry you are going through this, but seeking help is a brave step towards recovery.

The symptoms you ar describing definitely warrant speaking to a doctor. I would suggest making an appointment and bringing a list of your symptoms or what's happening for you with you, so that way you wont forget anything you need to say, or if you're afraid to say it, you can hand the list to them.

I agree with the others what your experiencing could definitely do with some extra support so I would book an appointment with your doctor. Perhaps your girlfriend could even go with you to help make it a bit easier. This article on what happens when you go to the doctors might help. This article on getting psychiatric help might also be helpful. Hope this helps. Take care
