Extreme anxiety about work

Hi everyone, I am sort of new to this forum thing so bear with me.

I have been so anxious about going to work every time. I work on the weekends mostly, and when Friday comes, my entire day is filled with worry and anxiety.
I hate my job and I don't enjoy it while I am there at all. I don't like the people I work with, and the supervisors are rude and condesending. I am sort of stuck
at this job until I can find another one. I cannot quit because of bills etc.

My anxiety seriously interferes with my everyday life, I cry uncontrollably and my chest
gets tight and it's hard to breathe deeply. I don't see a doctor or therapist and don't take any drugs. I am anxious about going to see someone about this and I'm not
sure I can even afford a therapist or psychiatrist. I would be interested in taking anti anxiety drugs if it would help. Although my concern is that it will make me tired,
and I would be taking them before I go to work. No matter what I do, I can't stop being anxious about work. I cry on the day before, the morning of, and while I'm driving
to work.

I often have panic attacks and I just want it to stop. I can't seem to talk myself out of these intense feelings. Nothing I am doing is helping. I try deep breathing,
which is often too difficult because my chest feels too tight. I try tea, meditating, doing other things to distract myself, and talking to friends.
Please help.

Hello there,

I don't have much advice but I just wanted to say that I was in the exact same boat as you and can completely relate. (Apart from for me these feelings came with school and not work.) I had been struggling with this for years, avoiding school whenever possible and crying from fear as soon as I got home, so I can definitely understand how you feel and you're not alone.

Is there any way you could save some money aside to go see your GP? I know it can be terribly nerve-wracking, but the GP deals with issues like this every single day and you WILL be taken seriously and receive the help you deserve. I personally find writing my feelings down on paper to take helps a lot if you find you struggle to talk when you get there. If money is the main issue here, is there anybody you could explain this to (family, friends) who could maybe help you out with costs?

If that's not an option, maybe look in to buying some self-help books. I've never had one personally so I can't make any recommendations, but I know many other wonderful people on here have and have found them to be very helpful.

thanks for the reply. I will try to get in to see a doctor. I just don't know what to do until then. Have you had any experience with medication, and did you like it? Were there other things that helped better than meds?

You're very welcome dear <3

I haven't had any medication unfortunately, as the last time I saw a professional was about a year ago. I'm going to the GP myself for the same reason as you on Monday to try and ask for help again. If you want, I can let you know how it goes so you have an idea of what might happen? But every doctor is different, of course.

Until then, just keep doing as you are hun, because you are doing lots of positive and healthy things already <3 I don't have much other advice or suggestions... Do you know progressive muscle relaxation? Try to remember the relaxation techniques you do at home, at work. Perhaps before you get out of the car sit there for a few minutes to compose and calm yourself, and if possible take little breaks during work to do so again when you start to feel yourself getting anxious.

Hello paperlantern!

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time, I used to have really bad anxiety so I know how difficult it can be.

Are you currently looking for work elsewhere? I know you need your current job but looking for another one in mean time could definetly help. I know for myself seeing a possible end in sight and a change coming soon tends to ease my anxiety, even if it's just a little bit.

And I have had some experience with anxiety meds as well. I found that I did get a bit drowsy and couldn't think as clear while taking them, but it did help ease my anxiety. Over time, I needed increase doses and there were other side effects as well. I noticed my personality changed a bit and I became less creative. I also was on them long term, and I would highly advise against doing that because I ended up with severe withdrawals when I did come off of them. But I think it is something to consider if you are looking for a short-term solution, maybe until you can find another job. But that's just my thoughts based on my experience, and I don't think medication can solve the problem if you really don't like your job!

Hi guys, I'm really sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Thank you very much for your responses. Eccentrics, yes, if you wouldn't mind sharing your doctor experience with me, I would appreciate it. Candilove, I have been looking for a job for months and no luck. It makes me feel helpless and stuck. I would feel guilty and like a failure if I quit without a back up job. I still don't know what to do except just keep going.

I'm sorry you are struggling so much with your anxiety.

Perhaps on Fridays you could have a you day and pamper yourself, do things which make you feel good. Such as having a relaxing bath, painting your nails, lighting some scented candles, putting on some nice music.

Is your work aware that you are having difficulties?

'Cause I'll always remember you the same.
Oh eyes like wild flowers within demons of change ♥
