Feelings for best friend

Not sure if 'm getting feelings for my best friend. We've been really good friends for over 12 years. I've been there for her whenever she needed anything, and she's been there for me. She's me at my worst, and my best, and vice versa. She's like a sister to me, and she has said that i'm like a brother to her. We can be open about anything and can talk for ever about anything.
I'm happy being friends, but recently i've been feeling a bit more...happier to see her if that makes sense. I find myself randomly fantasising about her, then i stop and think wtf? Why am i fantasising about my best friend?
I did have a crush on her when we first met 12 years ago, but back then i fancied any woman i came across lol
I'm worried i'm going to start acting weird around her or turn the conversation into a romantic one or something, which i don't want!!!
If she was to turn round and say that she liked me or made a pass at me, right now i probably would reciprocate, because of the thoughts ive been having, but i'm pretty certain she doesn't like me in that way, because we are so close and such good friends. I wouldn't want to jepordize it either.
I'm just confused as to why i'm seeing her in a more intimate way. I love her to bits, but i shouldn't be feeling the way i do!!! ANybody got any advice? been in a similar situation?
Thankyou

I dated my best friend for nearly 2 years.

It came with its ups and downs and a unique set of things to overcome. For a start we didnt really ever have that 'honeymoon phase' where you learn everything about the other person because we already knew most of it having been best friends for.....7 years before we dated.

We had a big discussion about what would happen if we broke up and we agreed we would stay friends. However when we did break up we didnt speak for nearly 2 years and now it is completely different. However much we tried to get things back to how they were it would never be the same.

It was lovely at times but Im not sure I can say I have no regrets about stepping over that line.

Sorry that wasnt very helpful!x

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

I'm dating my best friend and it's all kinds of win.

If you do end up going out, make sure you have a think together about how you'd feel if you broke up, and what you'd want to happen. As Liv has said, even with the best intentions, it could still end with you guys not talking, but it seems wise to at least try to plan to mend the friendship if the romantic relationship ends.

I guess the first step is to try to work out if she's into you? And work out how you'll feel if you make a move and she says she doesn't want to pursue a romantic relationship. Last year I nearly dated a [different!] best friend, but she then decided she didn't know if she liked me or someone else, and I tried to minimise awkwardness and say that whilst I was romantically interested in her, being best friends was enough for me, and made sure she knew that, so there was no awkward pressure.

I hope I've made some sort of sense. Best of luck!

I am currently:

i am currently dating one of my best friends

for me it is different as he was originally my older brothers best friend and then our mums meet and became best friends and i grew up with him and we also became best friends and i was really close with his older sis and younger bro, then he started working and i didn't see as much of him for 2 years then we saw each other again at my mothers 50th party and we hit it off

we have now been dating for 2.5 years and have talked about marriage, although we have a great relationship now it took awhile to get it off the ground as we were such good friends throughout our childhood we didn't want to upset things or start something and it end up failing, but in the end we thought well lets give it a try

just be open with ur friend it may make things awrquid for bit if she doesn't feel the same, but in time u'll both work past it and it will end up be something u laugh about (it has happened to me and me and that guy do joke bout the time i asked him out) or she can say she feels the same and u may never look back

Some infinities are bigger than other infinities.

You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you.

I am running the show. Everyone is waiting for me. I decide. I know this now.
