Adverse reaction to meds

So, I was taken off Prozac because I was having a severe side effect.
My doctor said to stop immediately, which I did, and she'd get back to me in a week with a name for a psychiatrist.
I'm worried about what quitting cold-turkey might do. She didn't say anything about other side effects, but I'm wondering if it will make everything worse until I get put on a new anti-depressant.
Any thoughts?

Hi

I guess it depends on how long it was on your system for, if it was only a day or two then i reckon you should be fine but i am no expert, can only go from personal experience.

I went cold turkey from taking Olanzapine, the doctor said it was fine to. Had loads of withdrawal symptoms like insomnia, jaw clenching, bad anxiety, flu like symptoms, sweating in bed, cold etc etc. They lasted about 3 weeks but i was on the, for 4 years and had been on some kind of psych med for 11 years without evey having a break, bit of a shock to the system me thinks!

Id you that worried, you could either contact your GP and ask him/her or you could phone NHS direct for advice.

Takecare

Check it's half-life, is this was short-term consumption of the med (a few days to a week), it will flush out of your system quickly.

When anyone puts you on meds like this (SSRI), they weigh out the benefits and the side-effects, in this case, the side effects have outweighed the benefits hence the discontinuation.. and you can't go back on and taper your med to stop bit by bit, you are just going to hurt yourself even more.

If you are going on monamine oxidase inhibitor (MOI), I think you need to wait 14 days after the use of SSRI to avoid any collision causing other problems.. but your doctor will go through this with you.

What dose were you on, and have you had any side effects since you stopped?
Really though, if they've told you to stop immediately rather than wean, it's because the benefits outweigh the risks. The side effects are usually dizzy/nausea stuff etc., and simmilar to when you went on them.

Okay, thank you.
I was on 30mg.
I haven't had any of the side effects that were the reason I stopped taking them, but I have had non-severe side effects since I stopped. Like dizziness, nausea, headaches... etc.
