ebay auctions
I was wondering, are you allowed to mention ebay listings on this site. I have two items for sale on ebay, and I was going to mention them for sale.
I know etsy etc is banned, but surely I was wondering if ebay is banned because you have to go through ebay to buy the stuff (and therefore you are covered by ebay's policies. Plus you are covered by paypal if you decide to use PayPal).
I am guessing that the answer is no (after all I cant remember anyone actually posting that they have stuff for sale), but I thought I would double check here before posting.

I don't think so. I remember reading somewhere that you can't post links or such where you would make a profit.

from the rules (although it took me bloody ages to find)
No links will be permitted on RYL if it is felt the member benefits from the link in any way, i.e. affiliate links, links to websites where someone wants more traffic / staff for their new self-harm community or threads selling things, before specifically clearing it with the RYL webmaster (Harley) or a moderator first.

Its also the fact that you could be a business just looking for people to buy your things and its self promotions, also the fact if it was allowed everyone would be at it when they had things to sell.
Its not really about the whole "well you are covered if you pay by paypal" thing (plus depending what you buy some things are not covered) but its just the self promotion really and that fact this is not a trading forum.

I guess insig's question could be rephrased to ask under what circumstances would Harley or a moderator clear it?
Because my interpretation of that rule is that you can't post links without getting permission from the mods. But the mods could well decide that they give permission to anyone they know or who is known to the community. I'm not saying that is the mod stance on it, just saying it's not clear whether moderator approval is the norm, or only in exceptional cases.

I think, but I could be totally wrong, that we have sometimes allowed things for charity. But that might be wrong. It's be a very long time since it's' come up.

As said if it was for charity or something like that where the money goes to a good cause, but if the money is going to your own pockets then no. There have only been a few charity ones in the past and nothing since, so these threads dont seem to be allowed generally.

We don't allow charity threads to be posted any longer but the moderators will consider allowing charity links to be posted in signatures although we consider this on an case by case basis
