I am currently:
EMDR.

Has anyone had it? What was the process like? Did it help? Any negatives?

Thanks x

I did it a few times but found it frustrating because it made me feel "stupid"and "ridiculous". There are a series of lights that move from side to side. You follow them with your eyes while holding buzzer things in your hands, and you can also be wearing headphones that beep. It didn't help me, but nothing negative came of it. Sorry it was a long time ago, that's as best as I can describe it.

Mine was the same as facet. I hated it as it didn't 'trigger' any memories and when I did say something I felt like nothing came of it. I know my therapist was disappointed I didn't want to do it anymore, but I felt like I was failing. It is worth a try though. You should spend some time creating a safe place first of all.

I started it but after about 6 sessions she said I wasn't ready and was going backwards. So I stopped seeing her. It's really hard work but can get good results.

I went to a therapist who does EMDR and she said I was no where near ready for the process. She said that it can be really difficult going back to the age when the traumatic event happened and the fact that I was hurting myself like there was no tomorrow suggested to her that I'd just get worse.

She said that you have to have a lot of coping skills and be pretty skilled in them for it to be a safe form of therapy. Alas I did not end up doing it.
